RATHKEALE GAA CLUB NOTES

Intermediate Footballers Advance to the County Final
Our Intermediate Footballers are back in a County Final after overcoming Gerald Griffins in the Semi-Final last Saturday evening, in Newcastle West. In front of a large crowd, in what were testing underfoot conditions, Rathkeale were very much the underdogs on the day and indeed it was Gerald Griffins that were the brighter in the opening exchanges. The opposition put early points on the board, through Noonan and Stack, before Eoin Kelly cut in on the corner to open Rathkeale’s account with a point. Rathkeale went in front on the 6th minute, when Dean Maune found the net after a great move from Josh O’Connor out on the sideline. Both sides then exchanged points through Mikey Morrissey from Rathkeale and O’Connell from Gerald Griffins. Coleman added a further point from a placed ball, while Long responded for the opposition. Morrissey added his second of the day, before Josh O’Connor found his first of the day on the 20th minute. Noonan added two further points for Gerald Griffins, from long range before Kevin Shanahan completed the first half scoring with a fine point to leave the scoreline reading 1-06 to 0-06 in Rathkeale’s favour. On the resumption, Cian Shorten replaced Barry Coleman before Eoin Kelly pointed for his second of the day. Stack responded with a point for Gerald Griffins, while Cian Shorten pointed from a placed balls from long range after being fouled himself. Noonan, added to his tally for Gerald Griffins, while Morrissey added his 3rd point of the day. Shorten replicated his opening score, by adding another fine long ranged free. Eoin Kelly found the net on 50th minute with a low shot into the corner to put breathing space between the sides. Gerald Griffins battled on and added 1-02 to their tally in the closing stages to let only a goal between the sides. Cian Shorten stepped up once again however, and added his 3rd of the evening, with a fantastic long range effort from play to insure the victory for Rathkeale. Final score on the day read Rathkeale 2-11, Gerald Griffins 1-10. Well done to all on a great display as the team and management now knuckle down for the final. Kildimo\Pallaskenry will provide the opposition which has been scheduled for Mick Neville Park on Thursday, October 28th at 7.30pm. Ensure you get your flags and colours up over the coming days and the very best of luck to the players and management team in the final.
