U-21 HURLING
Mungret St. Pauls 5-17 Ahane 0-17
After a venue and time change and then a 30 minute delay the U-21 hurlers eventually got to play Ahane in ULs North Campus on Tuesday 16 November 2021 in cold but dry weather. There were an impressive eleven scorers from the Mungret St. Pauls team, with only four of the points coming from frees. It was a great game with only the goals separating the two sides in the end.
Mungret St. Pauls opened the score with Ahane quick to follow but it did not take long for the first ball to hit the net giving Mungret St. Pauls an extended lead. An exchange of points before Mungret St. Pauls netted their second goal, Ahane pointed twice from frees. Mungret St. Pauls struck one more over the bar before the water break. Another point each and then Mungret St. Pauls widened the gap with the third goal of the game. Both sides kept taking their scores, Mungret St. Pauls getting their final two goals before the half time whistle with an extensive lead Mungret St. Pauls could take their foot off the pedal a bit. The half time score was 5-8 to 0-9.
Back out Mungret St. Pauls next two points came from frees as did Ahanes next point. There were some great attacks and passages of play while substitutes were coming on and getting stuck in. The following 14 points were shared between the two sides with Ahane keeping the intensity up it gave for a great second half. Our backs were put under pressure with Ahane going for their own goal but it was denied and cleared away.
With this win and a bye from Garryspillane we top the group and go straight to Semi Finals and now wait for the quarter finals to be played.

There was a lot of play on the pitch as the ball was worked though the players and Mungret St. Pauls scored their last point, a free for Newcastle West finished the game out.
