ALAN NC LOUGHLIN RIP
On Saturday May 4th news filtered through the parish of Knockaderry that Alan Mc Loughlin former International soccer player had passed away after a battle with illness at the young age of 54. Alan was born in Manchester on April 20th 1967 to Irish parents. Alan scored one of the most iconic goals in Irish football history in November 1993 in Belfast that secured the Republic Irelands entry to the 1994 World Cup finals in the USA. He played for many English club sides most notably Swindon Town and Portsmouth. He capped for Ireland 42 times and scored 2 goals, 1990-1999. He was with Swindon Town Academy 2016-2021. At the age of 22 Alan got the call for both England B and Ireland B football. He justified his right to play with Ireland through his parents. His
mother Nora Moran hailed from Knockaderry, where some family relations still reside and his dad came from Tuam Co. Galway. Ar dheis De go raibh a anim.
