KILDIMO/PALLASKENRY GAA CLUB NOTES

FÉILE PEIL NA NÓG: A huge weekend is coming, as our U-14 footballers travel to Féile Peil na nÓg 2019! Truly a historic occasion for the club, and we wish all the team and management every success in the competition. On Friday June 28 at 5pm, we open our campaign in Kent Park, Sligo against St. Mary’s. We will follow that up at 7pm in the same venue with a game against Clonguish.

The following morning, Saturday June 29 at 10.45am, we will be hosted by Breaffy of Mayo and will play them that morning. Further fixtures are dependent on results in the first three group games. This team will undoubtedly do the club proud as they have many many times before, and we would also welcome any club members who wish to travel in support of this hugely-talented group. Excitement is building around the parish, the countdown to Féile is now well and truly on!

LIMERICK SENIOR FOOTBALLERS: Commiserations must go to the Limerick footballers, including our own Tony McCarthy, Peter Nash and John Chawke who were defeated by Westmeath in the second round of the qualifiers in Cusack Park, Mullingar. They fought back bravely in the second half and perhaps could have snatched a win but Westmeath just had enough experience to see out the victory. Tony had a very solid game, playing the entire 70 minutes in a variety of roles while Peter made a big impact from the bench, winning a number of turnovers and bringing his usual direct running. It’s always disappointing to bow out of Championship but the three lads have done their club and county proud!

LIMERICK SENIOR HURLERS: Best of luck to Kyle Hayes and the Limerick senior hurlers who face Tipperary in the Munster Senior Hurling Final next Sunday afternoon in the Gaelic Grounds!

CELTIC CHALLENGE: Aaron O’Donovan put in another big performance while at full-forward for Limerick Sarsfields, hitting two points as they won on a 2-10 to 0-7 scoreline against Wicklow Blues. It means they have booked their place in the final of the Jerome O’Leary Cup where they will face Roscommon next weekend. Best of luck to Aaron and the rest of the team!

LIMERICK U-20 FOOTBALLERS: Jamie Hickey was in goal for the Limerick U-20 footballers who were unfortunate to just lose out to Clare in the Liam O’Connor tournament, on a 1-10 to 1-12 scoreline, falling victim to a late goal. Hard luck to all involved, but best wishes to Jamie, James Pomeroy and the rest of the team for the rest of the season!

ALL-COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 3: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 0-14 Feohanagh 1-14. Our hurlers travelled to Feohanagh on Thursday night for another round of league action, and were disappointed to come out on the end of a three-point defeat. A first-half goal against the wind struck by Feohanagh proved to be critical, and saw them take the two points. Ryan Kelly was again very effective for us in attack, hitting three points from play, and winning a handful of frees while the likes of Barry O’Connell and Brendan O’Shea were also influential.

COMMUNITY GAMES POC FADA: Congratulations to clubman Joe Fitzgerald who won the gold medal at the Limerick county finals for the poc fada and will now go on to represent Limerick at the national finals this summer!

U-14 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 2-8 Killacolla Gaels 2-10. A fascinating battle between the two top of the table sides in the U-14 Hurling Championship saw our young lads just lose out by two points in what was an absolute cracking fixture. Both sides are really excellent hurling teams, and competitive matches like this will bring both sides on. It means that both these teams, along with Belville Gaels, are all level on 10 points with a game to play in the round robin stage!

CLUB LOTTO: The lotto numbers on 17 June 2019 in Clancy’s were 9, 11, 18 and 23. There was no winner of the overall draw, while the winners of the €25 lucky dips were P & M Aherne, M Madden, P & E O’Neill and G O’Connell.

The jackpot has now reached €17,100 for next week’s draw in the Beer Garden! You have to be in to win! Please continue to support the club lotto, which is the most vital source of funds to fund all our teams from U-6 up to adult grade! An annual subscription is just €100 (€50 for 6 months, €25 per quarter or €8.50 per month) and a subscription form can be requested from any lotto seller or committee member.

REGISTRATION: The deadline for registration has now passed; anybody who has not registered or paid, please do so as soon as possible as unregistered players are ineligible to take the field or to train with the club.

CLUB LIMERICK DRAW: Sadly, there was no club winner in the Club Limerick draw for May, which took place at the weekend. However, there is no better way to support both and show our players you’re right behind them all the way. Kildimo Pallaskenry GAA is very fortunate to have a number of players involved with county teams in both hurling and football across a number of grades.
