GERALD GRIFFIN’S GAA CLUB NOTES
Newcastle West vs Gerald Griffin’s Senior League Group 2
Played June 29th in Newcastle West
Last league game for Gerald Griffin’s who took on Newcastle West in the Senior League. Not a good evening out for our boys, with things just not going their way; from Newcastle being tenacious in their defending, turnovers and general team play, Griffin’s fell very short on the night. A lot of lessons to be learnt in the lead up to the Championship where they are drawn with Glin and Pallaskenry. On a positive note, it gave Gerald Griffin’s management the opportunity to analyse their panel in preparation for the upcoming Championship. The team on the night lined out as follows: Brian Scanlon, Shane Cregan, Brian Long, Paudie O’Connell, Paul O’Donnell, Brendan Stack, Michael John Ambrose, Jamie Long, Paul Brouder, Hugh O’Donnell, John McCoy, Adrian O’Sullivan, Micheál Thornton, Diarmuid Noonan, Aidan Ryan. Subs: Donagh McEnery, Gavin Fitzgerald, Conor Cregan
Final score of the game was Newcastle West: 2-13, Gerald Griffin’s 0-04.
Mary Moore Principal of Scoil Naomh Mhuire Retires
We would like to wish Mary Moore best wishes on her recent retirement as Principal of Scoil Naomh Mhuire, Ballyhahill. Mary, originally from Athea, and coming from a strong sporting background is an avid sporting enthusiast, especially of our Gaelic Games. Over the years, Mary has been an integral part of supporting Gerald Griffin’s GAA and Ladies’ Clubs, facilitating the club in providing a school’s coach weekly, to promote and develop the skills of our underage players.
Mary always facilitated and ensured that the school was represented in the schools’ football competitions and some years back, they also took part in the schools’ hurling competition. Mary gave her time outside of school hours as a selector for the girls’ schools’ development football, The Larkin Shield.
Mary’s encouragement for all students to participate in our games has been felt in the development of our club over the years; inclusion being at the core at all times and ensuring all children got the opportunity to participate. Thank you once again for all your support and wishing you a very happy retirement.
In acknowledgement and as a thank you to Mary, Gary Thompson, Chairman, and Teresa Cregan-Stack, Secretary of Gerald Griffin’s GAA Club made a presentation of an inscribed crystal vase to Mary on behalf of Gerald Griffin’s GAA. Ar scoir ón obair, ag guí gach ádh, sláinte an bhradáin agus sonas ort lá i ndiaidh lae.
