AHANE GAA CLUB NOTES

East Senior Hurling Round 4 v Pallasgreen
Ahane welcomed Pallasgreen to Mackey Park on Friday on a dull and misty evening. In a game that was packed with hard hits and good scores both teams left it all on the field. It was nip and tuck for most of the game. Our first score came from Ciaran O’Mara from the half back line. Pallasgreen got points of their own and went ahead in the early stages of the first half. We will be disappointed with the number of wides we had, and on a number of occasions we could have gone a number of scores ahead if we had taken our chances. Adam O’Brien had a serious game between the posts for us, making several saves throughout the game to keep Pallasgreen goal less for the game. We did get a goal of our own as Daniel Minehan made a blistering run through the middle, he took on the shot on goal, but it was saved only for Kevin Morrissey to double on the rebound and get the goal. Points from Colum Carroll and more points from Pallasgreen left the half time score as Ahane 1-07 Pallasgreen 0-10. The second half got underway, and Colum added to his personal tally with a point, along with a point coming from Conor Morrissey kept our scores ticking over. Pallasgreen took a serious free from deep inside their own half and it somehow had the legs to get over the bar. Shane O’Grady got a super point to cement a phenomenal performance from him at wing back, he blocked ball, chased down players, hooked, tackled and scored. Ciaran O’Mara got his second point, and we were three ahead. However, the next three scores were from Pallasgreen as they closed the gap. We couldn’t manage to get another score and the game ended in a draw. Ahane 1-12 Pallasgreen 0-15

East/City Junior B Hurling League Round 4 v Caherline
On a cold and miserable Sunday evening Ahane travelled to Caherline to take them on in the fourth round of the Junior B League. Caherline started the stronger and kept this up for the whole game. We defended well throughout the game and denied Caherline several goal chances, unfortunately they were successful on two occasions, once in the first half and once in the second half. Ahane got some good points both from frees and from play. Seanie O’Connor, Liam O’Mara and Paul Ryan all got their name on the score sheet in the first half. Caherline got some good scores and at half time the score was Ahane 0-07 Caherline 1-07. The second half started, and it was all Caherline for the first fifteen minutes, we didn’t get our first score of the half until ten minutes in as Paul Ryan popped it over. At the water break it was Ahane 0-09 Caherline 1-16. The final fifteen minutes Caherline scored some more good points and got their second goal of the half. Never giving up, we got our goal in the final minutes, a dropping ball in landed with James Hayes who buried it to the net. Full time score Ahane 1-10 Caherline 2-23. A tough evening for our lads who worked tirelessly throughout the game but just struggled to make the ball stick in the forwards.

U17 Footballers
The U17 footballers kicked off their league campaign with a thrilling draw against Adare on the 30th June in Mackey Park. On a very warm evening and with the pitch in a fabulous condition, both teams playing an open style of football and treated everyone to a cracking game of end to end action. The game finished 3-7 to 3-7 and could have gone either way. Well done to all the U16/17 players for a fantastic effort. The team was missing a few players due to injuries and other commitments last night but all the panel played their part in a memorable match. The mentors would like to record their appreciation to all who helped out with car parking, first aid, umpires and to parents & friends who roared on and encouraged the team from the side-lines.
