West Senior League
Fr. Caseys 2-07 Rathkeale 0-10
Fr. Caseys Senior Footballers began their 2021 campaign with a winning start last Tuesday evening with a 2-07 to 0-10 victory against Rathkeale in Abbeyfeale. The absence of five players due to county senior and U20 commitments levelled the playing field against their Intermediate counterparts. For the first outing of the year, Fr. Caseys showed no rustiness in the opening half and thanks to two well taken goals they held a commanding 2-03 to 0-05 lead at the break. The second half was a more evenly matched affair, with Rathkeale closing the margin to three points at the conclusion but Fr. Caseys powerful start had stood to them and ensured that maximum points were captured. Next up for the Seniors is an away trip Ballysteen on Friday June 18th. Well done to all on this impressive start and hopefully the winning run continues. Well done also to Chris Smith who will be the Senior team captain for 2021, a deserved choice and we wish him the best of luck.
West Intermediate League
Fr. Caseys 0-08 Athea 3-08
After the success of the Senior Footballers on Tuesday evening, our Junior A Footballers were hoping to continue winning ways against neighbours Athea when they met in round 1 of the West Intermediate League last Thursday in Abbeyfeale. Unfortunately we faced a very strong Athea side who were very clinical on the night. Goals win games is the old saying and that was true on this occasion with the three Athea goals separating the teams at the end. More work may be required in the final third but in general it was a promising first outing and if this team continues to train there is no doubt they will be greatly improved when championship starts in August. Next up for the Juniors is an away trip to take on Newcastle West on Wednesday June 16th.
