BALLYBRICKEN/BOHERMORE GAA CLUB NOTES

Junior A Football: On Wednesday evening the lads took on Caherconlish in the opening round of the East Junior A Football League in Caherelly. Ballybricken started brightly with 3 quick points from Conor Mc Carthy and Dan Owens inside the opening five minutes but Caherconlish struck back to make it 3 points a piece at the water break. The introduction of Enda Frawley early on seemed to steady the ship when he kicked a monster of a point. Moments later, Tommy Carroll got on the ball and caused carnage in the Caherconlish full back line, rattling the ball off the cross bar, only for Paul Martin to slot home the rebound. Some lovely scores from Jack Owens and Conor McCarthy saw us leading 1:07 to 0:04 at half time. Bally didn’t let up after the break, they continued to dominate playing some great passages of play and slotting over some beautiful scores. Jack Owens then made a goal saving intercept just before the second water break with Bally up by 9. Kieran McCarthy came on at half forward to steer the lads home and some excellent points from Jason Cross and Jamie O’Donoghue saw us finish up on a winning scoreline of 1:14 to 0:09. Junior A Hurling: On a very warm Saturday morning in Caherlelly the lads took on Ahane in Round 1 of the East Intermediate Hurling League. The game started brightly for Bally with Enda Frawley coolly slotting a peach of point inside the first minute. Both teams traded points until Conor Mccarthy grabbed a brace of points just before the water break leaving us 0:05 to 0:03 up. Bally seemed to start to show a bit of dominance then with Micheal Martin and Conor McCarthy keeping the scores flying over leaving us 0:10 to 0:06 up at half time. The start of the second half was hotly contested with both sides scoring early on but Jason Cross was growing into the game more and sent over some lovely scores. Just before the second water break, a scuffle saw both sides reduced to 14 men. Bally went into the water break leading 0:14 to 0:08. Bally came out for the final quarter with fire in their bellies and completely blitzed Ahane off the field. Niall Mitchell and Michael Martin with wonder scores and Conor McCarthy scoring at will. John Casey in goal produced a dramatic save late on to keep his clean sheet intact. Bally finished out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 0:22 to 0:09. Team: John Casey, Jack Owens, Eoin Kloose, Mark O’Dea, Alan O’Riordan, Pa Byrnes, Matt Mitchell, John Stack, Niall mitchell, Micheal Martin, Conor McCarthy, Jason Cross, Dan Owens, Enda Frawley, Dan McGuire. Junior B Hurling: The lads took on Caherline in the opening game of City/East Junior B Hurling League. The game was very slow starting with Adam McCarthy getting his marching orders inside 10 minutes was the only real talking point of the first quarter with both side going in at two points a piece. The extra man began to show with caherline beginning not pull in front when they scored a luck goal. Bally responded well with Aidan Power keeping the scoreboard ticking over and stuck a lovely goal before halftime leaving bally only two points down. Colm Teefy and Sean Browne both score massive points from the half way line before caherline stuck a lovely goal. Both teams continued to trade points with David Grimes and Larry Browne really growing into the game. At the second water break Caherline lead 2:13 to 1:11. The final quarter started brightly for bally but unfortunately they were unable to take the goal chances that they created as the Caherline goalkeeper was on fire. The boys began to tire in the heat and caherline made good use of the extra man and they beat us on a scoreline of 2:17 to 1:12. Team: Kieran McCarthy, Hughie Lenord, Eoin Lyons, David Grimes, Adrian Lennon, Sean Browne, Larry Browne, Adam MCCarthy, Colm teefy, Rory Cahill, Killian Liston, Tommy Carroll, Seamus burke, Aidan Power, Jamie O’Donoghue.
