BALLINACURRA GAELS GAA CLUB NOTES
Schools Blitz
Last Friday, on a typical Irish October morning with sunshine and showers, peace and quiet and with a large number of the bird population from the Baggot Estate forest enjoying their breakfast on the pitch, Ballinacurra Gaels played host to a very exciting event. As the morning went on Gary McCarthy, Southside games Development Officer took to the field with Alan O’Loughlin by his side. In a very short time 204 boys and girls pupils of the local national schools took to the pitch where they displayed their newly acquired Gaelic Football skills for the next 90 minutes playing 36 matches. After an enjoyable morning and some refreshments they returned to their schools to continue their studies.
Ballinacurra gaels wish to thank the schools, their teachers and the boys and girls for their enthusiasm and excellent behaviour. Gary continued with 5th and 6th class pupils from Our Lady of Lourdes school – 35 in total – for a very competitive match to conclude a great morning’s activities. Thanks very much to Gary and Alan for their coaching for the past five weeks. Thanks to club officials Jim, John, Seamus and Senan for their work marking out 6 pitches and providing refreshments for all participants. These boys and girls are the future and it was a pleasure to host them and we all hope they continue to play and enjoy the games.
