BALLYSTEEN GAA CLUB NOTES
Senior Football
Last Saturday, our Seniors played out their final fixture of the season, where we suffered defeat to St. Kieran’s in Tournafulla. Despite starting strongly, the lack of sharpness and match fitness began to tell as the game wore and Kieran’s took advantage to press home and win by nine points in the end. Overall, it has been a very promising and competitive season for us. We reached the knockout stages of the County Championship and reached the West Senior Final. The club wishes to place on record, it’s thanks to the players, management, club officials, volunteers and supporters who represented the club with class and pride throughout the year.
Team versus St. Kieran’s: C. Ranahan; J. Daly, K. McMahon, B. Casey; M. O’Meara, P. Ranahan, J. O’Shaughnessy; J. O’Meara, P. Moran; D. Ranahan, S. Hallinan, M. Ranahan ©; D. Neville ©, S. Gallagher, S. Whelan.
Subs: M. Somers, R. Somers, C. O’Connell, A. McGrath, D. Holland, J. Blackwell, P. Neville, K. Walsh, C. Daly.
Fixtures
Our U21 Footballers will begin their Championship campaign this Bank Holiday Monday when they play Rathkeale in Adare (4pm throw in). Preparations have been ongoing for the last number of weeks and the side will feature a number of Senior players. Best of luck to all involved and all support is welcome as always.
Our Junior Footballers have qualified for the Junior B County Championship Quarter Final, courtesy of their West Final appearance. At the moment, we are fixed to play this match next Tuesday (22nd October) against St. Patrick’s. No doubt a tough test will be put to us from the City side. Best of luck to all involved.
Dinner Dance
We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting an end of season dance on Saturday November 30th at The Ballintemple Inn, Newcastle West. Music on the night will be provided by Kevin McCarthy and a disco will follow. Tickets are €25 and must be booked in advance. Contact any Club officer for further details.
Presentation
Last Saturday evening, Ballysteen GAA presented Calum Ryan, Matt Moane and Colm O’Flaherty with plaques in recognition of their All Ireland success with the Limerick Under 15 Footballers who defeated Antrim in the final of the Dermot Earley Cup Final last August. It’s great to see the work being done underage bearing fruit for both club and county and no doubt the three lads will be lining out in the green and gold at senior level in the coming years.

The Club will be releasing a book on the history of the GAA in the Askeaton-Ballysteen parish. If anyone has old photographs or stories regarding GAA in the parish, contact Paul Anglim.
