County Premier U21 Football Championship:
St. Kieran’s 1.10 – Galbally 0.15
The u21 footballers travelled to the University of Limerick North Campus this past Friday evening for the much-anticipated County Premier Semi-final against fierce rivals at this age grade, Galbally. We began the brighter of the two sides in the opening quarter with early scores coming from John Hayes and Cathal McEnery and overall, the team with great enthusiasm, working tirelessly for possession around the middle third of the highly impressive synthetic pitch. We held a worthy three-point lead at the interval, and it looked as if we were in a strong position to push on for a place in the final. Alas the men from the Galtees upped their game in the second period and five unanswered scores had reduced our lead and now saw us trail for the first time in the game. Now chasing the, we faced a major uphill battle against a Galbally side growing in confidence having found their scoring boots at half time. A John Hayes goal got us back into the game and it looked as if we could salvage a result. Galbally began to dominate proceedings around the middle as we found position increasingly difficult to come by, in particular around the breaking ball on both our own and opposition kick-outs. At the final whistle it was the south-Limerick side who emerged victorious on a two-point margin to book their place in the final against Fr. Casey’s who also enjoyed a two-point victory on Friday evening against Mungret-St. Pauls. No doubt the players and management will be disappointed at not advancing to the county final but with
thirteen of the side underage again next year there is more than enough talent at our disposal once again be competitive in the championship. many thanks to the management team of Patrick Windle, Donal McEnery, Darragh Treacy and Johnny McCarthy for their efforts over the past number of months organising the team. The u21 grade can always be a challenging grade due to player availability but hopefully we can push on in 2022 and enjoy another fruitful campaign.
Charity Road Hurling 2021:
Our much-anticipated charity road hurling event will make its return this December 27. Following the cancellation of the event last Christmas due to covid restrictions we are delighted to once again stage the event around our traditional route in Ardagh. The days events get underway at 11am at the church car park with participants, young and old facing the traditional challenging 4km route which begins at the church carpark, makings its way over Skehanagh bridge towards Cahermoyle House before facing the prospect of the winding final stretch back to Ardagh. We would encourage you all to come along and attend on the day for what has always been an extremely enjoyable day out. All funds raised this year will be donated to Milford Care Centre and Templestreet Children’s Hospital. We look forward to seeing you all on the 27th.
Hurling sisters for fun
Hurling sisters for fun finished last Sunday morning until the end of January/beginning of February. This initiative proved very popular over the 5 Sundays it ran for. Thanks to all the parents too who brought the girls each morning. Thanks to all the coaches who turned up in such numbers every Sunday morning.
