CLUB OPENING LEAGUE GAMES OF 2021
Our Senior Men took on Murroe Boher last Saturday evening in Boher pitch at 7.30pm in the first round of the League.
Murroe Boher were first on the score board within the first minute with a point.
Liberties had 2 wides before David O Neill got them on the scoreboard with a point from a free. On the 7th minute M/B were awarded a penalty which hit the net. New members Barry Cooney and Ken Byrnes were impressive in this first half, Barry sticking over 4 points and Ken scoring Liberties first goal on the 10th minute. Jack Fitzpatrick flicked over our 2nd goal less than 3 minutes later and followed that with Liberties 4th point. Our next 4 points came from placed balls. Half time score was Liberties 2-11 and Murroe Boher 1-12.
It was level pegging at the second half water break, but Murroe then went 2 points up. Shane Garry and David O Neill brought the sides level again on the 21st minute of this last quarter. Anthony Nash then took a long range free to put us up again, but Murroe answered within a minute. 2 more points from David O Neill with just one from Murroe gave us the win in this close and exciting opening counter. Final Score South Liberties 2-20 – Murroe 1-22
Scorers – David O Neill 0-7 (6 frees), Barry Cooney 0-4, Ronan Butler 0-3 (1 free), Jack Fitzpatrick 1-01, Brian Mc Donagh 0-2, Ken Byrnes 1-0, Shane Garry 0-2, Anthony Nash 0-1
On Sunday morning our Junior A Hurlers took on Pallasgreen in Pallas and had a resounding win of 3-17 to 0-11.
Limerick County Teams
Well done to Barry Nash and the Limerick hurlers on their great win over Westmeath last Sunday. Barry had been named on the GAA.ie Hurling Team of the Week last week, based on his performance against Cork so congratulations Barry. We wish Brian Ryan a speedy recovery and look forward now to their opening Championship game V Cork on July 3rd.
Hard Luck to Billy Lee and his football panel in the Division 3 Semi Final V Derry. Derry were favourites for this game, but Limerick gave it up to them, losing by only 4 points.
