SOUTH LIBERTIES

Hurling and Football Leagues
Our junior hurlers faced Monaleen last Friday evening in the City/East semi-final and after a fantastic game just came up short after extra time. Monaleen got the first couple of scores, but we replied well and at the break we were a point up 13 points to 12.
Second half started in the same vein with both sides trading scores and the lead exchanging hands numerous times. As we entered the final 10 minutes Monaleen pulled 3 points ahead, but we replied with a point and a fantastic goal from Jack Fitzpatrick who volleyed the sliothar past the Monaleen goalie. Again, both sides traded points and Monaleen once again lead by a point as the final whistle approached. We were awarded a free which Ronan Butler converted to take the game to extra time.
20 minutes further and as both sides tired scores were harder to come by, Darragh Godfrey scored our second goal to see us lead by a point and the halftime break in extra time. Monaleen equalised on the restart and went ahead again. We levelled again with a further 2 points but Monaleen scored the last 2 points of the game to win on a score line of Monaleen 0-31 to South Liberties 2-23.
A fantastic team effort from all the panel who play an exciting brand of hurling with some real quality scores being taken over the 80 minutes.
