RATHKEALE GAA CLUB NOTES

Intermediate Footballers Make it Two Championship Wins from Two!

Our Intermediate footballers maintained their 100% start to the Championship season when they overpowered Bruff last Saturday evening in Claughaun. On a well presented pitch and with only a slight cross field breeze there was no excuse for poor football. It was the men from Bruff that opened the scoring with a well taken point from their full forward in the opening minutes. Unfortunately for Bruff, that was as good as it got and they failed to score for the remainder of this very one sided game. After four consecutive wides, Rathkeale finally opened their account with a well taken point from Eoin O’Donnell. Timmy Hogan, Kevin Shanaghan & Andrew White (2) tagged on four more points before Dean Maune fired to the top corner of the next with a well taken team goal. Eoghan O’Connor followed up with Rathkeale’s second goal minutes later, with O’Donnell & Maune pointing twice more to leave the score reading 2-06 to 0-01 at the interval.

Upon the resumption, Rathkeale increased their lead significantly, with further points from O’Connor(3), while Cian Shorten hit Rathkeale’s 3rd goal of the evening. Further points from O’Connor, Morrissey, White, Gallagher (2) & Wilmott (2) built up the score before Andrew White found the net for the 4th time with an accomplished finish, which was the final score of the night. Final score, Rathkeale 4-20, Bruff 0-01. The result leaves Rathkeale sitting on top of the table as we enter the Championship break and no doubt there will be tougher tests ahead, as we progress in the competition. Rathkeale’s next fixture is scheduled against Gerald griffins in the West Intermediate Championship on Saturday April 13th in Askeaton at 6.45pm. Please refer to Facebook\Twitter for potential changes to this fixture.

Club Membership 2019

Club membership for the 2019 season is now due. You can also register using the official GAA app and have been notified regarding the same in the last week. Rates for the upcoming season are as follows: Adult €50, Under-18 €20 and a family rate of €70. The rate for non-playing adult members will remain at €30. This represents good value in comparison to membership costs in other clubs across the county. All players must pay their membership prior to taking part in any games or training. This will be strictly enforced this year so make sure you contact Philip O’Donnell, who is the club registrar again for 2019, before training commences. We are taking this matter very serious this year and you simply won’t play if you haven’t paid, players are also going to ensure that their fellow players have paid so no excuses.
