MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES

SENIOR HURLERS: The Monaleen senior hurling team begin their county hurling championship Group 2 campaign this Friday night at Claughaun GAA Club with a game against local rivals Ahane. Throw-in is at 6.30pm. Best of luck to the players and management team. All support greatly appreciated.
SENIOR FOOTBALL: Our senior footballers suffered defeat to Ballysteen in their championship clash at Martinstown on Friday night last. The team was unable to recover from the concession of two early goals.  The competition takes a break now until the end of July.
CONGRATULATIONS: Well done to Monaleen’s Conor Nicholas who captained the UL side which defeated local rivals LIT 3-17 to 1-10 in the All-Ireland Freshers Hurling Championship final played at the Gaelic Grounds on Thursday last. Injury prevented Conor from starting the final, but he was introduced in the final minutes of the game.
LIMERICK MINOR FOOTBALLERS: Best of luck to Rian McBrearty, of Monaleen, who is a member of the Limerick minor football squad which takes on Clare in the Munster championship in Newcastle West on this Wednesday night, April 10 at 6.45pm. Limerick will also face Waterford in the Fraher Field, Dungarvan at 6.45pm on April 17 before facing Tipperary at Sean Treacy Park, Tipperary Town a week later.
LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on Thursday, April 4 with the jackpot standing at €8,700. The numbers drawn were 9, 11, 17 and 36. Winners of €50 lucky dips were D. Power, Fairways; B. Sullivan, Castletroy Hts; B. Clifford, Mulcair Drive; F. Kenzie, Riverbank. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs.
U14 FÉILE FOOTBALL: Our U-14 Gaelic football team bowed out to Mungret in the Féile Peil na nÓg A Semi-Finals at Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale on Sunday last.
U16 FOOTBALL: The Monaleen U16 football side lost out to a strong Fr Casey’s side in Division 1 of the county championship in Abbeyfeale on Monday night. Our next game will be against Mungret later this month.
U-16 HURLING: Monaleen U16 hurlers face Newcastle West in Division 1 of the county championship in Monaleen on Tuesday April 16 at 6.30pm.
CAMOGIE: Our U16 team began their defence of the U16 League with a home match v Blackrock Effin on Thursday. The match which was played in front of a good crowd started well for Monaleen with some good early points. A couple of goals in the first half from Grace Clohessy finished the game as a contest and Monaleen ran out winners on a scoreline of Monaleen 4-17 to Blackrock Effin 2-1. CHALLENGE GAME: On Saturday, we hosted Abbeyknockmoy from Galway for a challenge match U16. It was a great match and the skill from both sides especially the visitors was fantastict to see. Our girls played well but were beaten on the day by 2-15 to 1-5. Great preparation for a tough home match on Thursday v Newcastle West. That match is in Peafield Road at 6.30pm and hopefully we will have plenty of support.
JUNIORS: Later on Saturday evening our Junior panel travelled out to Ballybrown for a challenge match and won well 4-14 to 2-8. A busy week for challenge matches in the club with our U12s winning away to Treaty Gaels on Thursday evening while our U11 played away to Mungret.
U-8 & U10S: Our U8 & U10 teams hosted Na Piarsaigh on Sunday morning at the clubhouse. Great to see so many players active for our club. Thanks to all the parents who travelled to support.
 
WELL DONE: Well done to all of our girls who played schools camogie this week with Monaleen NS, Milford NS and Gaelscoil Caladh an Treoigh. Special mention to Clodagh Power who was part of the Laurel Hill team to win the Limerick Junior final this week.
 
LIMERICK TEAM: Congrats to Caitlin Bonifil who represented Monaleen Camogie on Limerick minor camogie team in their championship win v Roscommon on Sunday last.
