PATRICKSWELL GAA CLUB NOTES

UNDER 21 HURLERS: Patrickswell reached the quarter-final of the U-21 Premier Hurling Championship after a hard-fought victory over Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale in Kilbreedy. Our opponents settled into the match quickly and accumulated three unanswered points in the opening ten minutes. Patrickswell eventually tamed the conditions and equalised with a trio of points from Jason Gillane before the first water break. Shortly after the restart, there was a flurry of activity. Jason Gillane and John Kirby scored a minute apart to establish a 0-5 to 0-3 lead. Within sixty seconds, Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale had drawn level. As the pendulum swung from end to end, Jason Gillane helped himself to a point and a goal across three minutes. By the 27th minute, the ‘Well were 1-6 to 0-5 ahead. The opposition responded with two points; however Josh Considine secured the last point of the first half to cement a 1-7 to 0-7 interval lead.
Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale fired over the first point of the second half, but Josh Considine was on hand to cancel out. The scoring rate began to wane and the ‘Well reached the 40th minute at 1-8 to 0-8 ahead. Jason Gillane and Josh Considine added fresh points to create a five-point lead, but Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale remained a threat. The match was ultimately decided when Josh Considine shocked the opposition with two goals in a devastating minute. John Kirby chipped in with another point to stretch the margin. To the neutral, the scoreboard may have seemed comfortable and lop-sided at 3-11 to 0-8 when the water break was called. Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale scored the next point after the water break before the teams went scoreless for fifteen minutes. As the match reached injury time, Jason Gillane tacked on another point before Croagh-Kilfinny-Rathkeale claimed a consolation goal. The final result was a 3-12 to 1-9 triumph. The quarter-final with Na Piarsaigh is on Tuesday November 23 at 7.30pm in Rhebogue.
