PATRICKSWELL GAA CLUB NOTES

UNDER 21 HURLERS: The U-21 hurlers produced an impressive performance to beat Ahane in their first match of the Premier Championship. The opening five minutes were scoreless as both teams neutralised each other. When Patrickswell settled into their stride, they were rewarded with five unanswered points in six minutes from Jason Gillane (0-3), Calvin Carroll and John Kirby. Ahane’s first point was immediately cancelled out by Josh Carey within a minute; however they added another two points before the water break. At that stage, the scoreline was 0-6 to 0-3 in Patrickswell’s favour. After the restart, Jason Gillane’s point created a four-point lead but Ahane claimed another point to stay in contention. In the 27th minute, Calvin Carroll notched a fine individual goal to put Patrickwell in the ascendency. Two minutes later, Josh Considine contributed another point before Ahane closed the first half with a point. The half-time score was 1-8 to 0-5 to the ‘Well.
The second half began with another Jason Gillane free, but Ahane rallied with a pair of frees in reply. Our opponents had moved within five points, although Jason Gillane closed the door with another pair of frees. Three minutes later, Josh Carey hit the back of the net to establish a ten-point lead of 2-11 to 0-7. Ahane stayed in contention with two quick points just before the water break to reduce the arrears to 2-11 to 0-9. The final quarter of the match was ruthless from Patrickswell. Jason Gillane scored the third goal in the 50th minute and John Kirby raised the green flag once again in the 53rd minute. Jason Gillane’s further point cemented a fifteen-point lead of 4-12 to 0-9. Ahane’s tenth point was supressed by a trio of points in two minutes from Calvin Carroll and Jason Gillane (0-2). At the end of normal time, the ‘Well were 4-15 to 0-10 ahead.
