PATRICKSWELL

SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell were defeated by Na Piarsaigh in their third Championship match. Despite Mark Carmody scoring the opening point in the first minute, the ‘Well were under the cosh almost immediately. By the 15th minute, Na Piarsaigh led 1-4 to 0-2 by virtue of Peter Casey’s goal. Diarmaid Byrnes slowed the surge with a point, but the next ten minutes were dominated by Na Piarsaigh’s haul of nine points in contrast to a brace of points from Patrickswell. As the match approached half-time, Aaron Gillane notched a free to reduce the deficit to 1-13 to 0-6.
The second half began with Patrickswell on the defensive. Na Piarsaigh struck three points in four minutes before Aaron Gillane intervened with another free. As the rate of scoring slowed down, Na Piarsaigh accrue three consecutive points in ten minutes before a Diarmaid Byrnes point. There was thirteen minutes left and Patrickswell were fourteen points behind at 1-19 to 0-8. The remainder of the match was characterised by four points each (Thomas O’Brien, Mark Carmody, Aaron Gillane and Diarmaid Byrnes). The Caherdavin side were eventual 1-23 to 0-12 winners. The fourth match of the group is against Doon on Saturday September 10 at 6pm in Kilmallock.
JUNIOR A HURLERS: Our Junior A hurlers maintained a 100% record with a thrilling win over Tournafulla. The early stages were tough as Tournafulla answered Bryan Fitzgerald’s opening point with a barrage of a goal and two points. Bryan Fitzgerald’s goal brought Patrickswell back into contention, but Tournafulla’s accrual of five points exceeded our three points from David Woulfe, Jamie Dillon and Eoin Harmon. There was fifteen minutes gone and Patrickswell trailed by 1-7 to 1-4. Cian Gorman and Bryan Fitzgerald narrowed the gap to a single point before our opponents increased their lead to four points with three straight points. Once again, Patrickswell responded with a salvo of three points from Eoin Harmon 0-2 and Adam Carrig. The last point of the first half was from Tournafulla and they led by 1-11 to 1-9.
The second half did not start positively. Tournafulla scored two more points and plundered their second goal. Despite Cian Gorman’s point, the arrears grew to six points at 2-13 to 1-10. However, there was no collapse from Patrickswell. The next ten minutes yielded one goal and four points to Tournafulla’s solitary point. The scores were now deadlocked at 2-14 apiece with fifteen minutes left. The Patrickswell momentum was irrepressible and Tournafulla faded. Eoin Harmon’s haul of three points and Jamie Dillon’s score ensured at 2-18 to 2-15 triumph. The next match is against Garryspillane on Sunday September 11 at 6pm in Caherconlish.
CLUB LOTTO: The Club Lotto draw on Monday August 29 was not won. The numbers drawn were 3, 7, 17 and 22. The bonus number was 15. The €100 Lucky Dip was won by Lucy, Rae & Sadie Normoyle and the €20 prizes were claimed by Cora Cliffe, Mary O’Brien, John Brennan, Ellie Keegan and Pat O’Shea. This week’s jackpot is €18,000.
