Senior Camogie Championship: Granagh-Balingarry 0-16, Na Piarsaigh 0-6.

Na Piarsaigh opened their 2nd season at senior championship with a difficult away assignment to kingpins Granagh-Balingarry.
Wind assisted in the opening half, we trailed at the break 0-10 to 0-4 but can be thankful to inter county goal keeper, Laura O’Neill for a string of brilliant saves as the westerners sought to kill this tie early. The second half was much more even with the majority of scores on both sides coming from placed balls. Enya Harrington was our sole scoring provider in a game which marked the return to camogie action of Katie Campbell following 5 years on the side line with injuries. Welcome back Katie.
Team: Laura O’Neill, Keevah Palmer, Sinéad McNamara, Róisín McNamara, Jessica Ward, Aideen McNamara, Rebecca Slater, Aoife Wilson, Tara Hurley, Rachel Murray, Rachel Considine, Katie Campbell, Ciara Hogan, Enya Harrington (0-6 frees), Moya Henn. Sub used Emma O’Rahilly

SENIOR HURLERS

Our Senior hurlers took another step towards the knockout stages of the Championship with a fine victory over Adare in Mungret on Saturday evening.
Early frees from Shane Dowling along with points from Peter Casey, Kevin Downes and Alan Dempsey has us 8npoints to 3 up.
2 quickfire goals from Kevin Downes gave us a great cushion to make it 2-8 to 0-3.
We somehow allowed Adare back into a contest in which we dominated and by half time our lead was whittled down to 3 points 2-9 to 2-6.
That proved somewhat of a wake up call to us and at the start of the second half we had our 3rd goal when Adrian Breen followed up a rebound after a great save from the Adare keeper.. We added some quickfire points from Peter Casey, David Dempsey, Ronan Lynch and Alan Dempsey to reopen the gap we held in the first half.
This time we wouldnt relinquish our lead and 4 Will Henn points along with a point each from Peter, Kevin Downes and Conot Boylan sealed a 3-21 to 2-11 scoreline.
Those to show well were the returning Niall Buckley at corner back along with Cathal King and Ronan Lynch while up front Kevin Downes and Peter Casey worked hard.
We now enter our final game with Doon knowing a semi final spot awaits if we win. This game takes place in Kilmallock on Saturday 31st Aug.
Team: Podge Kennedy, Catal King, Mike Casey, Niall Buckley, Mike Foley, Ronan Lynch, Tommy Grimes, Will O Donoghue(capt), Alan Dempsey, David Dempsey, Kevin Downes, Conor Boylan, Will Henn, Shane Dowling, Peter Casey.

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS

Our second string we also in action when they had an early start in Newcastlewest on Sunday.
The opposition this time was Tournafulla.
A win would be enough to send the lads into the quarter finals.
Playing against a strong breeze and tough conditions in the first half we trailed at the break by 6 points.
However the second half was a different matter and aided by the breeze we began to get on top.Gearoid Synnott, Adam McNamara and James Daly were prominent as was Reuben McCarthy who rattled the Tour net twice.
Overall a decent performance from the lads who now have a quarter final berth secured with a group game still remaining.
