U-14 DIVISION 3 FOOTBALL
Mungret St. Pauls 6-2 Caherconlish 7-6
This was a great scoring game in Caherconlish on Monday 10 June as our young players were really tested, they picked up points where they could and closed in tight on their defenses to keep Caherconlishs scores down. Our players gave a great account of themselves in this game.
U-14 DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL
Mungret St. Pauls 0-16 Fr. Casey’s 1-3
On Monday 10 June during the break in the rain, Fr. Casey’s traveled to Mungret with a few of their key players missing Mungret St. Pauls had a great chance to get a win over Fr. Casey’s.
The game started out even enough with a lot of wides from Fr. Casey’s it was not looking great for them, Mungret St. Pauls had 3 points up before Fr. Casey’s half way through the first half had their first point from a free. Fr. Casey’s came back to attack the goal but the Mungret St. Pauls goalie was swift on his feet and sent the ball wide. The 2 sides scored another point each before the half time whistle.
The second half was Mungret St. Pauls game, Fr. Casey’s showed they were still on the pitch when they scored a cracker of a goal. Mungret St. Pauls tried to reply with their own goal but they were denied by the Fr. Casey’s goalie. Mungret St. Pauls scored their fifth point before Fr. Casey’s scored what was their last point of the match. Mungret St. Pauls played a great game and Fr. Casey’s made them work for every point, they were very tight in their defense blocking down every attempt Mungret St. Pauls played to scoring a goal.
JUNIOR A HURLING
Mungret St. Pauls 1-27 Na Piarsaigh 1-13
This was a great game for Mungret St. Pauls, it did take them the first few minutes to settle into the game but when they did they made the game their own with some spectacular scores from both sides. Played in Rathbane on Tuesday 11 June, the rain held off for most of the game, giving a few drops before the half time, the second half saw no rain.
It did not look good for Mungret St. Pauls at the beginning as Na Piarsaigh pointed their first shot and wided the next 2 while Mungret St. Pauls hit the upright to score their first point. The ball saw both ends of the pitch to keep the game on level score until the 20th minute when Mungret St. Pauls went 5 points with no reply, the last point hitting the crossbar before it tipped over. Na Piarsaigh scored their seventh point while Mungret St. Pauls finished the half with their twelveth and the 13th point struck the upright again before over.
The second half saw more action Na Piarsaigh scored 2 points to Mungret St. Pauls four and then Mungret St. Pauls took their chance and struck the net. There were another 2 points each before Na Piarsaigh put pressure on our backs, they broke through but were denied their score by the quick action of our goalie. Mungret St. Pauls scored another 3 points, with a wide for breaking their stride, Na Piarsaigh stuck another point over before Mungret St. Pauls pointed another 2 and in a very comfortable lead. Na Piarsaigh poped their last point over the bar, Mungret St. Pauls doubled that on the far end. Na Piarsaigh knew the only thing for them to do was to go for goals to lessen the increasing lead, they got one past our goalie but Mungret St. Pauls got the last point in with the game finishing infront of the Mungret St. Pauls goals as Na Piarsaigh tried to get another score but the Mungret St. Pauls defense were strong and blocking everything.
INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL
Mungret St. Pauls 1-21 Crecora Manister 1-3
This was a one sided game, Crecora Manister had noone on their bench while Mungret St. Pauls sponsored Limerick Motor Centre Intermediate team had a complete set of fresh legs ready to go on. It was a great game to showcase what football this team can play in Mungret on Thursday 13 June 2019.
Mungret St. Pauls missed twice before their got their score sheet going, they had 2 points up before Crecora Manister after one fail produced their first point. Mungret St. Pauls then powered on and scored an additional 5 points before Crecora Manister replied with their second and last score of the first half. Mungret St. Pauls finished the half out strong with 4 more points and a 9 point lead.
The second half began with Mungret St. Pauls scoring 3 points before Crecora Manister made a run and broke through the defense to send the ball into the back of the net. Mungret St. Pauls kept their cool and produced 3 more points until Crecora Manister pointed their last ball. Mungret St. Pauls signed off the game in style with a further 4 points and a great goal.
The Intermediate footballers have a bit of a break before they face into their next game on the 24 of June.
COMMUNITY GAMES
Well done to the Mungret club girls who made up the Regional team that won the County Community Games final. The team are now through to Munster semi-final in a few weeks time.
Our boys football came second in their group stage where they proceeded onto the County Limerick Semi Final where they put in a great game but unfortunately came off second best.
The Regional Community Games will take place in Mungret St. Pauls this weekend, we would like to wish all the competitors the Best of Luck.
LIMERICK SARSFIELD CELTIC CHALLENGE
Well done to the Limerick Sarsfield Celtic-Challenge team who won their quarter final against Carlow and now play the Semi final next Saturday.
Mungret St. Pauls were delighted to be able to host this match today, thanks to all involved in helping out.
