MONALEEN CAMOIGE NOTES:
What a busy week we had for camogie. Great to see all the matches starting again.
Here is a round-up of what took place.
*Intermediate*
Our intermediates started their league campaign last Sunday in Division 2 of the league. We were away to Murroe Boher who we had narrowly beaten in the semi final of the championship last November. This time we dominated from the throw in and finished with a good win 1-16 to 1-9 .
Today we were away to Ballybrown in round 2 and again dominated winning 0-18 to 2-3. Next up in 2 weeks is a home match against Croagh Kilfinny. Well done to Faye Coffey , Ciara Buckley and Ellie Madden our u16s who made their adult debuts last week.
*Juniors*
Our second adult team, our junior Bs played their first match in peafield last Monday with a challenge against Parteen. Here we had another 3 u16s debut, Grace Field, Bella Collins and Saoirse Fallon as the girls came away with a Comfortable win on what was a lovely evening for hurling.
This evening the Juniors Bs played in the first round of the league away to St Ailbes in Division 4. St Ailbes are a well experienced outfit and won this encounter but our Juniors put up a good tough fight and showed lots of promise.
*U16*
For the first time Monaleen camogie entered 2x u16 teams in the league. Our U16 A team were due to play Cappamore but Cappamore could not field a team and so match was called off unfortunately.
Our u16 B played away to Na Piarsaigh last Thursday. A team made up of a combination of u16s, u15s and u14s , the girls tried hard Considering they hadn’t played together previously but lost out to a stronger Na Piarsaigh team on the night.
*U15s*
Our u15s played a challenge match today at the clubhouse in preparation for their upcoming feile. They played against Newtownshandrum Cork. It took a while for the girls to get used to playing together again but they got better as the match progressed winning by 3 points in the end.
*U14s*
Again we fielded 2 x u14 teams in the league.
Our u14 A team ( 2008 girls) played their first league match away to Patrickswell last Tuesday in the A division. They had a tough encounter with Patrickswell but showed huge grit and dominated the second half but unfortunately came out of the losing side. Lots of positives to be taken from this though as it was very obvious to see this team improving and continuing to get better with every match. Well done.
Our u13s( 2009) played in the u14 C division at home against Murroe Boher. They had a challenge a few days previous against Doon u14s which they won and followed that up with a great start to the league with a dominating performance over Murroe Boher. Super stuff and great experience for this young team.
*U12*
Our U12s continue to train Tuesday and Thursdays at clubhouse.
*U11*
We hosted an u11 blitz in conjuction with Ahane yesterday at the clubhouse and Mackey pk Ahane. Monaleen had 2 teams . Team 1 played 4 matches in Clubhouse against Bruff, Adare, Kildimo/ Pallaskenry and Crecora. It was a great morning of camogie with some great skill on display. Thanks to our 2 first whistler referees Saoirse Fallon and Niamh Twomey.
Our 2nd U11 team went out to Ahane in the afternoon for the second part of the blitz. Here we had teams from Killeedy, Croagh/ Kilfinny and hosts Ahane. Unfortunately the weather turned at this time and the poor girls played in what only could be described as artic conditions with hailstones falling non stop.
Still we got a couple of matches and again the level of skill and determination was a joy to watch. Well done to all our u11s. We will be having another blitz in the next few weeks.
*U10s*
Our u10s went out to Mungret with 2 teams this morning and played 2 brilliant, competitive matches in the lovely sunshine. Great start to what will be a busy u10 year.
*U9s*
U9s continue to train at clubhouse on Sunday mornings and are adding in a second session on Thursdays from next week.
*U8s*
Our u8s train at the clubhouse Sunday mornings and today they played an hour of mini matches between them which no doubt were highly competitive and good fun.
*U7s*
U7s train at clubhouse Sunday mornings at 11am.
*U6s*
