DROMCOLLOGHER/BROADFORD

West Junior B Hurling League Round 1
Dromcollogher/ Broadford 1-19
Tournafulla 2-11
In their opening game of their league campaign, Dromcollogher/Broadford put together a strong team performance in an end-to-end battle to defeat Tournafulla away from home by 5 points. Dromcollogher/Broadford started sharply with a pointed free from Tom Fitzgerald opening the scoring after good early pressure. Brian Noonan responded to a Tour score to keep us a point ahead before Tournafulla took a lead by adding a quick goal and a point. A really good save by Glen McNamara and some strong tackling from our full back line managed to get us through this sticky period. This led to Dromcollogher/ Broadford responding with a strong final 20 minutes of the half holding their opponents scoreless and adding 7 unanswered scores with the highlights being Brian Noonan bursting through some unfortunate tacklers to add a great point and full forward Timmy Brosnan tacking on 2 points along with winning a couple of frees as he caused heaps of trouble for the home teams full back line. Gerard Noonan’s accuracy from long range frees also pushed the team forward. At half-time, Dromcollogher/ Broadford led by 9 points to 1-2.
Playing against the breeze second half, Dromcollogher/ Broadford started the second half well as Killian Cahill struck over a great score off a nice pass from Pat Curtin. Tournafulla added a point before Cahill latched onto a breaking delivery to strike home an excellent goal to push Dromcollogher/ Broadford into a 7point lead. Another Fitzgerald free and yet another Brian Noonan score adding to his tally pushed Dromcollogher/Broadford 9 clear before a superb Tournafulla goal just evading Glen in goals brought them firmly back in the game. Tour added 2 more points to bring them within 4 and put our lads under pressure once again. But like throughout the game, they responded well with Pat Curtin and Brian again as he latched onto a good pass from Adam Cotter, getting vital scores. At this stage, our bench was introduced with all 4 immediately contributing and unlucky not to add to the scoreboard at stages. Tour added a point before Brian again and a free from Thomas pushed us back into 7 point lead. Tournafulla came at us strongly in this period with some sensible defending keeping them away from our goal by our sturdy backline. They added 2 frees before Sean Ryan, who like his brother Eamonn at corner back, was making his debut at this level, rifled over a great relieving score to push the lead back to 6. Tournafulla added another point before Jack Shanahan added a classy point to cap his excellent game in midfield. Tour added 2 points as or backs battled to keep our goals intact and Gerard Noonan added his third well struck free to cap off our scoring on a good starting point for the team for the campaign ahead.
