MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES

VICTORY CELEBRATION: Monaleen GAA club Victory Celebration Night will be held in the Kilmurry Lodge on this Saturday, February 15th at 8.45pm. Join us in celebrating the successes of the 2019 Junior Football team, and also in honouring our 1969 Junior Football Team who will be guests of honour on the night. Tickets are €25 each and are available from Ross O’Neill at 085 7640562 or Caroline O’Kane at 087 6448807. Deadline for ticket sales is this Thursday, February 13th at 2pm. Tickets will not be available on the night. The meal will begin at 8.45pm on Saturday night in order to facilitate those attending Limerick’s Allianz Hurling League fixture with Waterford at the LIT Gaelic Grounds that evening.
We would like as many of our members as possible to make every effort to go to this celebration as we are not just honouring last years team, we will be making a special presentation to the 1969 team.

MEMBERSHIP: Monaleen GAA Club membership is now open and due for 2020. All playing members should pay without delay as there is no cover for any injury sustained in training or matches without membership being paid. The last day for payment for inclusion in any match ticket draws is, as always, March 31st. We appreciate your early attention to this.

HEALTHY CLUB: Monaleen GAA with Lights up and Operation Transformation will continue their walks on Monday night next, February 17 at Monaleen GAA Clubhouse from 7.30pm. The walk scheduled for last Monday night was postponed due to the inclement weather. Participants are requested to meet at the clubhouse beforehand to register. There is no cost involved and the event is open to all members and non-members. However, no dogs are allowed and all children must be accompanied. Participants are asked to wear high visibility clothing, to bring torches and let’s light up our community.
Meanwhile, following on from last year’s hugely successful ‘Weigh Your Age’ initiative by Operation Transformation, Halley’s CarePlus Pharmacy in the Newtown Centre are inviting people to call in any time, free of charge, to track their progress alongside the Monaleen GAA community walks. They can also address any other topics of a healthy lifestyle in their private consultation room. Contact Halley’s on 061-338730.

SYMPATHY: All at Monaleen GAA Club would like to pass our sympathies to the O’Shea family on the passing of Rita. Owner of O’Shea’s pub on the Ballysimon Road, Rita provided our members and all the parish with a warm and friendly atmosphere to enjoy a drink and a chat. May she rest in peace.

LOTTERY: Our dedicated team of Lotto volunteers will be out and about calling to homes over the coming weeks. They will be battling inclement weather conditions. Please give them a few minutes at the door steps and a few bob for a subscription.

U21 HURLING: Monaleen U21 hurlers are due to face Murroe-Boher in Group 1 of the County U21 A Hurling Championship in Boher on this Sunday, February 16 at 12 noon. All support greatly appreciated. Monaleen’s scheduled county U21 A hurling championship game with Blackrock on Sunday last was postponed due to the inclement weather.

LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on February 6, with the jackpot standing at €20,000. The numbers drawn were 8, 14, 21 and 22. Winners of the €50 lucky dips were J. Rea, Miltown Manor; B/S Madden, Riverbank; P. Mallon, Golflinks Road; M. O’Dwyer, Senior Hurlers. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.
