MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES

CONGRATULATIONS: Well done to Monaleen’s representatives involved in the Limerick senior hurling squad who defeated Waterford in the final of the Allianz Hurling League at Croke Park on Sunday. Andrew la Touche Cosgrave, Lorcan Lyons and Jamie Power are members of the Limerick senior hurling squad, while Brian Geary is a selector with the Limerick side and Paul Kinnerk is team coach.

BEST WISHES: Best of luck to the Monaleen senior footballers and their backroom team who face Ballysteen in the second round of the county senior football championship this Friday evening in Kilbreedy at 8pm. All support greatly appreciated. The team lost out to holders Adare in the opening round of the championship last weekend.

LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on Thursday, March 28 with the jackpot standing at €8,400. The numbers drawn were 4, 10, 14 and 28. Winners of €50 lucky dips were G. Condon, Newtown; B. Kearney, Woodhaven; N. Wade @ Leos; P/M Hough, Newcastle. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs.

U-16 HURLING: Well done to our U-16 hurlers and coaches who defeated Na Piarsaigh 1-10 to 1-7 in the opening round of the Division 1 U16 Championship in Caherdavin on Monday night.

U14 FEILE FOOTBALL: Best of luck to our U-14 Gaelic football team who have qualified to face Mungret in the Féile Peil na nÓg A Semi-Finals at Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale this Sunday, 10am. Kildimo Pallaskenry will meet Fr Casey’s in the other semi-final with the final scheduled to take place at mid-day on Sunday.

U-16 FOOTBALL: Best of luck to our U16 footballers who begin their campaign in Division 1 of the championship with a fixture against Fr Casey’s in Abbeyfeale on Monday night next, April 8 at 6.30pm. All support greatly appreciated.

CAMOGIE: Our Junior A team began their league campaign with a home fixture v Tournafulla on Sunday. The girls started well and raced into a 2-5 to 0-1 lead after 20 minutes helped by 2 Caoimhe Lyons goals. The remainder of the match was more competitive and the Monaleen defence stood up to plenty of pressure with Grainne Fullen, Saoirse Lane and Aisling Kennedy in goal helping to keep Tournafulla at bay. Final score: Monaleen 3-13 Tournafulla 2-3. CAMOGIE FIXTURES: This Thursday, April 4, is a busy evening for the club as the U16s begin their defence of the League title with a home match v Blackrock/Effin at 6.30pm in Peafield Road. Our U12s play a challenge match away to Treaty Gaels, throw in 6.45pm. And finally our U11 team play away to Mungret, throw in 7pm.

LIMERICK SQUAD: Special mention to Aoife Doyle, Aoife Nelligan, Niamh Moloney and Ella Hession who represented Monaleen for Limerick in the U16 Munster final against Cork on Sunday.
