Monaleen GAA Club fundraising duck race in full flow

DUCK RACE FUNDRAISER AND NEW JERSEY SPONSOR: Thanks to everyone who helped make the 2019 Monaleen GAA Club Duck Race fundraising which took place on the Mulkear Rover in Annacotty on Sunday last a big success. The afternoon’s entertainment included fun and family entertainment with prizes, clowns and face painting. The event was followed by the launch of our new club jersey and sponsor from our new club sponsor Dermot G. O’Donovan Solicitors by Muiris Gavin in Monaleen GAA Clubhouse.

GOLF CLASSIC: The Monaleen GAA Club fundraising Golf Classic takes place at Castletroy Golf Club on the Friday, September 27. The classic takes the form of a champagne scramble. Thanks to everyone who has supported the event. All slots on the timesheet have been filled. Prizes and trophy presentation will take place in Monaleen GAA Clubhouse from 9pm. All are welcome.

HEALTHY CLUB COMMITTEE: Monaleen GAA club is establishing a Healthy Club Committee. Julie Golden and Nicola Donohue are the Club’s Healthy Officers. Last year’s very successful ‘Lights Up 5k Walks’ were organised under the Healthy Club initiative. The ladies have lots more exciting ideas and we are looking for two or three volunteers to help out with organising events designed to improve the overall wellbeing of our club members in every aspect of life, including nutritional health and mental health. If you would be interested in helping out please contact Caroline O’Kane, James Johnson, Audrey Ruschitzko, John Noonan, or directly to Julie or Nicola. This is a very worthwhile group and an area the club would love to develop for all of our members and their families.

LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on September 19, with the jackpot standing at €16,000. The numbers drawn were 9, 10, 11 and 33. Winners of the €50 lucky dips were A. Fleming, Evanwood; A. Jones, Churchwood; R Stokes O.S.R.; E. Flannery, @ Tap House. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.

Monaleen minor hurlers, City minor champions for 2019

MINOR HURLERS: Congratulations to Monaleen minor hurlers who won the City Minor Championship on Sunday beating Kildimo-Pallaskenry in the final by 1-18 to 2-12. Well done to the players and coaches.

JUNIOR A FOOTBALL: Congraulations to the Monaleen junior A footballers who defeated Hospital-Herbertstown 3-14 to 2-9 in the Jnr A Football Championship last weekend. Well done lads. The Junior As will contest the Co Junior A league final against Kilteely-Dromkeen in Kilbreedy at 7.30pm this Friday, September 27. Best of luck to the players and management team. All support appreciated.

U16 HURLERS: Best of luck to Monaleen U16 hurlers who face Mungret St Paul’s in the Shane Hourigan Memorial Cup sponsored by Mr Binman, U16 Hurling Division 1 Championship final at the LIT Gaelic Grounds this Sunday, September 29 at 12.30pm. All support greatly appreciated on this big occasion for our players!

Monaleen U14 hurlers, County Division 1 Champions 2019

U14 HURLING: Congratulations to the Monaleen U14 hurlers who defeated Na Piarsaigh in the Jack Lyons Memorial Cup County U-14 Hurling Division 1 final at Claughaun GAA Grounds, in Childers Road on Saturday last. Monaleen emerged victorious by six points, 2-8 to 0-8, after an exciting contest. Monaleen had led 2-6 to 0-6 at half-time. Well done to this talented group of players and management team.

U13 HURLING: Good luck to the Monaleen U13 hurlers and management team when they take on Murroe-Boher in the Mr Binman U13 Hurling Division 1 Final at Claughaun GAA Grounds, Childers Road, this Saturday at 10.45am. All support appreciated.

U12 FOOTBALL: Well done to Monaleen U12 footballers who won the county U12 Group 1 final when defeating Fr Casey’s 4-8 to 1-3 in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale on Thursday night last. Our U11 footballers also enjoyed a terrific run in the competition, losing out to Monagea in their U12 Group 1 finals fixture.

U9 HURLING: More than 240 budding young hurling stars representing 16 teams from 6 counties took part in the Monaleen GAA club U9s ‘Festival of Hurling’ last weekend. Tipperary, Kildare, Galway, Cork, Clare and Limerick, through host club Monaleen, were represented on the day. Indeed, Monaleen fielded four U9 teams. Well done to the organisers. The feedback from visiting clubs was extremely positive.


U16S: Our U16s reached the U16A final with a victory against Doon on Thursday last. The game was played on the clubhouse pitch in front of the good crowd and the Monaleen girl’s started well taking a 1-4 to 0-0 lead after 10 minutes. The remainder of the match was competitive but Monaleen always held a good lead and the final score of 4-13 to 2-3 put the girls into the camogie clubs first ever U16A championship final. The match is in Croagh at 6.15pm on this Thursday and a big Monaleen crowd would undoubtedly help the girls as they try to beat a strong Newcastle West side. JUNIOR A: On Sunday morning our Junior A team were away to Templeglantine. The Monaleen girl’s who had won their 2 previous championship matches put in a great performance to win by a point. Monaleen 2-7 to 0-12. U10 COUNTY BLITZ: Our U10 team travelled to Kileedy GAA on Saturday morning to participate in U10 County Blitz, this was a great well organised event and one which the girls thoroughly enjoyed.

U8 COUNTY BLITZ: On Sunday, September 22, Monaleen Camogie co-hosted the U8 County Blitz with Ahane Camogie Club, this was a huge occasion for us with12 clubs playing 3 matches each. Thanks to all teams, coaches, mentors and parents who travelled on the day. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with this event to make it so successful.
