MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES

SENIOR HURLING: Our senior hurlers face Ballybrown in a crucial outing in the Bons Secours Hospital County Senior Hurling Championship on Sunday next, September 1 at Claughaun at 1pm. Monaleen have taken six points from their opening four Group 2 fixtures with two wins and two draws to date and sit joint top of a very tight group. Best of luck to the players and management team on Sunday in this very important game. All support appreciated.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: Our senior footballers lost out to Fr Casey’s in their final Irish Wire Products Ltd County Senior Football Championship Group 1 fixture on Saturday last in Adare.

GOLF CLASSIC: Tee off in the Monaleen GAA Club fundraising Golf Classic which takes place at Castletroy Golf Club on Friday, September 27. Teams of three for the champagne scramble format competition cost €180. A limited number of tee times are available. As well as playing in the scramble you can also support the event by sponsoring a tee box. For further details, email monaleengolfclassic@outlook.com

BAG PACK: The next all-club fundraiser is a one day Bag Pack at Dunnes Stores, Childers Road on Friday, September 6 from 10am until 9pm. We are looking for volunteers (players and parents) from senior club, camogie, juvenile and ladies football to help out. So if you can spare an hour or two on the day, please contact Audrey Ruschitzko with your preferred time slot.

U16 HURLERS: Well done to the Monaleen U16s hurlers and management team, who qualified for the Division 1 county semi finals with a good 3-18 to 1-13 win over Cappamore in Cappamore on Monday night.

U16 FOOTBALLERS: Our U-16 footballers are due to face Galbally in the U16 Division 1 shield final in Rathbane on Sunday, September 8 at 11am. Best of luck to the players and management team.

LIMERICK TEAMS: Best of luck to the Monaleen players who are representing Limerick in the U14, U15 and U16 All-Ireland hurling competitions this weekend. At U16 level, Lochlann McHale and Ronan Lyons are involved in the Limerick squad while Joseph Fitzgerald, Jack Ryan, Ben Hayes and Tony Power are in the U15 county squad. Darragh Langan, Ben Murnane, Mark Field of Monaleen are members of the Limerick U14 hurling squad.

CÚL CAMP: The GAA Cul Camp proved a big success last week at our clubhouse and Peafield Road venues attracting big numbers of participants. The camp catered for children aged 6-12 years. Well done to all those who helped organise the event. Big thanks to Limerick senior hurlers Gearoid Hegarty and Tom Morrissey who dropped in to visit the camp last week.

2009 HURLERS: Monaleen’s 2009 hurlers who took part in the Newtownshandrum tournament last weekend. Monaleen beat Ballyea and drew with Toomevara before being losing out by 3-4 to 2-3 to eventual winners Loughrea. We gave gametime to all 21 players during the competition. We defeated Mungret in our final game. It was a great day for this talented squad at a really well run tournament.

A group of Monaleen U8 hurlers who took part in the regional blitz at Na Piarsaigh

U8S: The Monaleen U8s played in the regional blitz in Na Piarsaigh last weekend. The team played Fedamore, St Pat’s, Murroe Boher, Patrickswell, Ahane, Adare and Na Piarsaigh. It was a great experience for the boys, who did the club very proud.

The Monaleen U9 hurling squad which took part in the blitz in Kinvara last weekend

U9 HURLERS: Our U9 Hurlers played in a blitz in Kinvara, last weekend. Monaleen fielded two teams and played against Sixmilebridge, Clarinbridge and hosts Kinvara. There was some great skills on show from both teams.

LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on August 22, with the jackpot standing at €14,800. The numbers drawn were 5, 11, 24, and 33. Winners of the €50 lucky dips were P. Tiernan, Tipperary Road; P. Kelly, Carrigeen; GO Nolan, Glenside; Danny Buckley @ Hurlers. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.

U14 CHAMPIONSHIP: Round 4 of the championship saw Monaleen host Bruff at home last Tuesday. A strong start from Bruff saw them go into an early lead and take in a 6 point lead at halftime on a scoreline of Monaleen 0-03 Bruff 2-03. Bruff dominated the second half, holding Monaleen scoreless. final score Monaleen 0-03 Bruff 4-11. Monaleen: Faye Coffey, Eimear O’Driscoll, Kim Ivory, Ella O’Halloran, Emma McGrath, Saoirse Fallon, Bella Collins, Abi Houlihan, Ciara Buckley, Katie Sheehan, Amie O’Brien, Ellie Madden (0-03), Eve McCarthy, Grace Hegarty, Rebecca Bromell, Ellen Hosey, Caoimhe McInerney, Claire Moloney, Aoife O’Brien, Laurie Murnane, Dani O’Callaghan, Olivia Foley & Merveille O’Brien. Monaleen play the final round of the U14 Championship, away to Newcastle West on this Tuesday night, August 27.

LIMERICK U14S: Well done to Monaleen Camogie players Niamh, Ellie, Bella, Saoirse, Ciara and Ella who played a challenge game with Limerick U14 at the weekend in The Ragg.

U11 BLITZ: Thanks to Granagh-Ballingarry who hosted an U11 blitz Sunday morning in Ballingarry. Monaleen played 3 competitive matches against St Ailbes, Newcastle West and Granagh Ballingarrry.

U8S BLITZ: Our U8s made the short journey to Murroe Boher on Saturday morning for an U8 Blitz with games against Kilmallock, ahane and Murroe. A great morning of camogie.

LIMERICK U16 ALL-IRELAND FINAL: Monaleen Camogie were very proud to be represented by Ella Hession, Aoife Nelligan, Niamh Moloney & Aoife Doyle on the Limerick U16 team which faced Waterford in the All-Ireland final in Nenagh on Sunday. Unfortunately, it was not to be Limerick’s day.
