MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES

ALL-IRELAND SEMI-FINALS: The ticket details for Limerick’s All-Ireland senior hurling semi-final with Cork or Kilkenny at Croke Park on Saturday, July 27 have been confirmed. The senior semi-final will start at 6pm, with the throw-in for the minor semi-final which will also feature Limerick set for 4pm. Tickets for the semi-final double header at will go on sale through the various outlets (Super Valu/Centra and Tickets.ie). These tickets will go on sale after next Sunday’s All-Ireland senior hurling quarter-finals, probably on Monday, July 15. Ticket prices: Adult Stand Ticket €50; Juvenile Stand Ticket €5. Terrace – €35; No Juvenile Tickets for the Terrace.

SUMMER CAMP: Our Summer Camp kicked off on Monday, July 8 at the Peafield Road pitch. A hugely impressive 144 children have signed up for the Monaleen GAA club Summer Camp this morning. Record numbers!
Huge thanks to Audrey Ruschitzko for her hard work in co-ordinating the registration, and to Fiona and Nicola for assisting this morning. 11 of our own club members are coaching the camp. This camp is a huge success each year for the club. Well done to everyone involved!

LIMERICK U-20 SQUAD: Monaleen players David Moloney and Conor Nicholas were members of the Limerick U20 hurling squad which lost out to Cork in round one of the Munster U20 championship on Wednesday evening last in Pairc Uí Rinn. Monaleen’s Leo Morrison was a member of the side’s backroom team in the area of strength and conditioining.

LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on July 4, with the jackpot standing at €12,700. The numbers drawn were 8, 11, 26, and 32. Winners of the €50 lucky dips were C & S O’Gorman, Bloomfield; G Condon, Newtown; PJ & M Gaffney, Monaleen Rd; Ken Power c/o Hurlers. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.

LADIES FOOTBALL:

JUNIOR TEAM: The Groody Gaels ladies Junior team had an excellent, hard fought win over Galtee Gaels recently in Monaleen in the fourth round of the county league. Groody started the game the better of the two sides with early points from wing forward Alie Lacey and full forward Claire Tierney. Groody then scored two goals in quick succession, the first an excellent long range effort from wing back Aislng Moyles and the second followed an excellent team move which was expertly converted by full forward Claire Tierney. The first half came to a close with points from midfielder Laura O’Mahony, wing back Aisling Moyles, two from full forward Claire Tierney and the score of the game, an excellent long range effort from wing forward Alie Lacey. At half time the score stood at Groody Gaels 2-7 to Galtee Gaels 1-3. The second half started with both sides trading early scores before Laura O’Mahony increased Groody’s goal tally to 3 with an excellent finish following a strong run through the Galtee Gaels defence. This score was followed soon after with a very strong comback from Galtee Gaels with included the scoring of 3 goals in quick succession to level the game at 3-8 to 4-5. Groody Gaels re-took the lead with excellent scores from play from Midfielder Maria Sheehan and Center Forward Claire Byrne. The match ended soon after with Groody Gaels holding out for the win on a scoreline of 3-10 to 4-5. That makes it 3 wins out of 4 for the girls and next up is an away match against Adare in July.
