KNOCKADERRY GAA CLUB NOTES
MINOR B CUP COUNTY HURLING CHAMPIONS
Knockaderry 1-13
Belville Gaels 0-15
12 years is along time to wait for a Minor Championship title to come to the small parish of Clouncagh/Knockaderry. 2008 was the last time the Club were able to field underage teams without amalgamation. From 2009 to 2019 the clubs underage teams had being amalgamated with various local clubs under names like Deel Rangers, Clann nan Gael and in the later years with Monagea. This year the Club took the decision to go back to the green and white jersey and with hard work from coaches and the teams our underage teams like the U14’s and u16’s reached shield finals in hurling and the minor football team reached a quarter finals. 2008 saw the last Minor title come to the Club as Knockaderry so the win last week was a wonderful achievement first year back. From the first group game against Askeaton in August 7th with a win 1-20 to 2-12 to Rd. 2 against Ballybricken/Bohermore/Fedamaore 4-22 to 0-7 to Rd. 3 away to Caherline win 3-22 to 4-15 they topped the group stages. The semi-final was against local Club St. Kierans and from the throw in the lads were hungry for that win, with a full time score of 2-19 to 0-9. Roll on the final and being a local derby against rivals Belville Gaels the game was sure to be a battle of two halves. Last Thursday in MNP on a bitterly cold but dry evening , the man behind the whistle referee Kevin O Brien from Patrickswell took charge and one could see from thrown in that the battle had begun for the title. With Belville opening the score with a free both sides were yet to settle into the game with Knockaderry opening also with a free put between the uprights by Kieran Storin. Just before 1st water break and 4 points clocked up by the lads a goal by Kieran it eased them into finishing the first half. Going into the second half the lads in the green led by 6 points, 1-08 to 0-5. With the second half throw in and Belville playing with the breeze they came out of the traps fighting. Roared on by the crowd it took the Knockaderry lads 11 mins to score which came from a free by Kieran with Belville gaining ground the 2nd half was point for point and with a draw on occasions, Mike Molloy Kieran Storin and Enda Moran fired over the badly needed scores. With a draw going into added time it was heart stopping as both teams had eyes on the Cup. In
the dying seconds and on our scoring side a free was awarded to Knockaderry. With the breeze slightly settled and Kieran behind the slitor the air went silent and Kieran put it between the posts at the town end with a point dividing the teams the ball was pucked out by Belville goalie Cian O Conor and then the full time whistle echoed through the pitch, the hard work and 5 games later and the jubilation of the winning captain Bryan Mortell with a very humble captains speech lifted the cup on behalf of the lads and the Club. The game was hard fought by both sides through out with no player sitting back. Credit is due to these lads who gave full commitment to management and each other in the last 6 weeks. Many thanks to manager Tom Mc Grath, selectors Sean Condon John O Connor and Noel Molloy for their time and dedication. The team has a panel of 23 lads comprising of three sets of twins, Mike and Jack Molloy, Cormac and Darragh Lyons and Cathal and Enda Moran and three sets of brothers, Colm and Eoin O Connor, Gary and Kieran Storin and Micheal and Jack O Connor.
