KILDIMO/PALLASKENRY GAA CLUB NOTES

BEREAVANCE: A shadow was cast over all club activity this week as we learned of the tragic passing of club member, Darren Whelan. Darren was an individual who was full of life; filled with energy and doing everything with positivity and enthusiasm. A strong underage player in both codes, he made the step-up to adult hurling in recent seasons, and had started every game in the senior hurling league in 2021, playing a variety of positions: wing-back, midfield and wing-forward.
We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to his family; to his mother, Geraldine, to his father, Eddie, his brothers Gavin and Eamonn and to all his extended family and friends. Darren was an incredibly popular person due to his easygoing attitude, a smile never too far from his face and his passing is one that will affect us all.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Seasaimís go daingean le chéile.
LIMERICK SENIOR HURLERS: As a club, we are so proud of Kyle Hayes and Darren O’Connell; it was an incredibly tough week for them, losing a close friend in the build-up to what was an important match, it really does put things into perspective. But despite the trying circumstances, the sweltering heat and giving Tipperary a 10-point lead by half-time; Limerick produced a second half for the ages to turn around that deficit and win by five. And to the forefront of the charge was Kyle Hayes, who scored one of the all-time great individual goals seen in a Munster Final. He collected the ball 90 or so metres from goal, raced past all comers, produced a devastating sidestep to deceive Brendan Maher, hopped the ball off the surface twice before burying the ball past the keeper. It was a devastating show of pace, power, determination and skill to seal a third Munster title in a row. To do that after a truly awful week is a testament to the character that Kyle is. Well done to Kyle, to Darren and to all the Limerick senior hurlers on an amazing victory.
LIMERICK U-20 HURLERS: The very best of luck to Cathal Downes and the Limerick U-20 hurlers who take on Clare in the Gaelic Grounds at 8.05pm on Monday July 19 in the Munster semi-final. With a home game and a talented team, it’s a big opportunity to make a Munster final. Best of luck also to Éanna McGarrigle who is involved in the backroom team.
