U10s travel to Thurles next Saturday to take part in an u10 Munster hurling blitz.

Harry Greensmyth Memorial Perpetual Cup Tournament The club held its new tournament for first time on Saturday and what a great mornings hurling was held. Taking part this year were H-H, Mungret, Kildimo-Pallaskenery and Ballyhea from Cork. In the opening semi-final H-H took on Kildimo-Pallaskenery. Our lads got off to a great start putting over some good scores and also a few good goals from James Gallagher, James Fitzgerald and Callum Ellevsen were taken. Kildimo-Pallaskenery competed well but our lads held firm with some great work from Jake Ryan, Jack Saddlier and Christian Higgins and again in second half we got some great scores winning out H-H 5-7 Kildimo-Pallaskenery 1-01 In the other semi-final Ballyhea v Mungret, Ballyhea won a tight game in the end 3-9 to 1-6. . After a short break the finals commenced.

First up was the runners up final of Mungret v Kildimo-Pallaskenery with Mungret winning out 1-10 to 0-04 It was H-H v Ballyhea in the Harry Greensmyth Cup Final.

This game was one of the toughest and most competitive games of the day or nearly all year for both teams. What a game it turned put to be. Our lads started well scoring an early goal to give us a great start. The hurling was tough and end to end. We got another great goal chance and again we scored it, Jamie Walsh rattling the net. We were playing well and Cian McNamara at centre back was very strong. In midfield Shane O Dea and Rian McNamara were doing great work. Ballyhea came back at us though and responded with a goal and 2 points over the rest of the half.

At half time we went in leading by a point H-H 2-0 Ballyhea 1-2. On resumption Ballyhea scored a point to draw level. Then a few minutes later they took the lead for first time with another fine point. We then got a free after some great work from William Ryan O’Sullivan at wing forward with Shane O Dea scoring the resultant free to draw the game level again. There was then some great hurling from both sides with our backs under a lot of pressure but some great defending from Oision Lyons, Noah Brennan, Paddy Kavanagh and Dylan Ryan kept the game level. Then Ballyhea seemed to get stronger and went into a 2 point lead. We then missed a 65 and it

looked as if Ballyhea might hold on. But our lads then dug deep and found and another gear. We got a 65 again after huge pressure especially from our full forward Christian Higgins. The resultant 65 from Shane O’Dea came short but was won by Jamie Walsh and great work from him resulted in Jamie scoring a goal. This meant with 5 minutes still to go we were 1 point up. We now saw our lads dig deep and with some huge work from Cian McNamara at 6 and our midfield, also from Rian McNamara who had move to full back and our centre forward line we held out for a famous win

H-H 3-01 Ballyhea 1-06. Our lads celebrated to huge cheers from the large local support. What a game. Huge thanks to Ballyhea for there part in a great final. It was then time for the medal and cup presentation. With all players receiving a specially designed medal for the tournament. Paudie O’Dea thanked all the teams and players for the great hurling displayed. Kevin Higgins then spoke about Harry Greensmyth and all the great work he had done for Hospital-Herbertstown GAA. Then Harry’s wife Christine spoke of his great love of GAA and especially Hospital/Herbertstown GAA.

Then to huge cheers our U12 captain for the day Ben Barrett received the Harry Greensmyth memorial perpetual cup from Christine Greensmyth.
