Last years west and county Junior B football champions and defeated munster finalists Granagh Ballingarry defeated by St. Patricks in the opening round and forced to give a walkover to Ahane in round 2 made it back to back wins in the Limerick county junior a football championship with an impressive seven point 0-16 to 1-6 victory over all year’s defeated finalists Camogue Rovers at sun drenched Banogue on Sunday afternoon to go joint third on the league championship table with St. Patrick’s and Ahane on 3 points.

John Scully of Gallbally took charge of this county Junior A football Championship group 2 round 4 tie played on an excellent pitch in front of a good crowd. Camogue Rovers Anthony Punch and Paudie Murphy traded white flags from open play in the opening two minutes. The Granagh Ballingarry boys dominated for 17 minutes with points through Donal O’Grady play on 4 minutes. Paudie Murphy (play) on 6 minutes Aaron Smith free’s on (8, 15 and 19 minutes) before Anthony Neylon finally found the range for the Camogue Rovers after 20 minutes when he split the uprights from a placed ball to leave four between the sides. Granagh Ballingarry 0-6 Camogue Rovers 0-2 on 22 minutes then after four minutes of scoreless play a pair of white flags for the boys in black and green on 27 minutes to send Granagh Ballingarry in at the interval leading 0-8 to 0-2.

Granagh Ballingarry again dominated for 12 minutes after the interval with four unanswered white flags from open play through Paudie Murphy on 32 minutes Denis O’Connor on 35 minutes Eoin Lynch on 39 minutes Jack Cagney on 42 minutes before points were traded by Anthony Neylon (free) on 44 minutes and Paudie Murphy (play) a minute to leave it Granagh Ballingarry 0-13 Camogue Rovers 0-3 at the end of the third quarter. Then after a few minutes of scoreless play points were traded by Aaron Smith (play) on 50 minutes and Anthony Neyon (free) 3 minutes later to leave Granagh Ballingarry still 10 ahead 0-14 to 0-4 on 53 minutes. Camogue Rovers for being overawed had a point from a played ball through Anthony Neylon on 55 minutes followed up by Anthony Punch goal a minute later to reduce the deficit to eight, 0-14 to 1-5 on 56 minutes. Then Aaron Smith from a placed on 58 and substitute Dean Clancy from open play on 30 split the uprights to extend the black and green boys advantage to eight before Peadar McCarthy won a point back from open play for the Camogue Rovers which was to a little too late for the boys in green and gold. The final whistle sounded from the kick-out to leave the Granagh Ballingarry boys comfortable 7 point 0-16 to 1-6 of the two league championship points on offer to go joint third on the Limerick County Junior A Football Group 2 league/championship table on 4 points with St. Patrick’s and Ahane to stay in contention for a quarter-final spot when they play second place on six points Hospital-Herbertstown in the final group 2 stage game on Saturday 24th or Sunday 25th September. Granagh Ballingarry scored 12 points from frees and 4 points from frees. Camogue Rovers scored 1-2 from play and 0-4 from frees.

West Junior B Hurling Championship Group 1 Round 4

Croagh is the venue on this Friday 2nd September at 6.45pm for the meeting of holders Adare and 2021 champions Granagh Ballingarry in round 4 of group 1 in the west Junior B hurling championship. Holders Adare will enter Friday’s game on top of the table on 6 points from three games after defeating Newcastle West by two points 1-15 to 2-10. St. Kieran’s 3-17 to 1-4 and a walkover for Kileedy. Granagh Ballingarry are just second on 4 points with Newcastle West from two games after they defeated St.Kieran’s by a point 0-10 to 0-9 and received a walkover from Kileedy an exciting game is in prospect in Croagh on Friday at 6.45pm and your support would be welcome to cheer on the boys in black and green in their bid to go level on top of the west Junior B hurling group 1 league/championship table on 6 points.

County Intermediate Hurling Championship Group 2 Round 3

Sean Finns Park, Rathkeale is the venue on Sunday 4th September for the mouth-watering clash of great rivals and neighbours Granagh Ballingarry and Knockaderry in round 3 of group 2 in the county intermediate hurling championship. Both sides will enter Sunday’s game level in second place on two points with Pallasgreen, Knockaderry and Hospital-Herbertstown on the league Championshiptable. Knockaderry went under to Pallasgreen by three points 2-6 to 2-9 and defeated Kilmallock by two points 2-17 to 1-18 in round 2 while the Granagh Ballingarry boys went under to neighbours Croagh-Kilfinny by one point 0-17 to 0-16 and defeated Hospital Herbertstown by six 2-14 to 1-23 in round 2. So, Sean Finns Park, Rathkeale is the place this Sunday at 2pm to cheer on the boys in black and green to back to back wins in group 2 of the County Intermediate Hurling Championship to stay in contention for the Knockout stages.

€6,200 Jackpot on Saturday

There was no winner of the €6,100 jackpot in the lottery draw held on Saturday 27th August in Buckley’s Bar, Ballingarry. The numbers drawn were 3, 4, 13 and 20. Lucky dips of €20 each went to Pa O’Grady promoter online, Donie Barron promoter O’Gorman’s Shop, Chawke’s Cross, Granagh; Stephen Roche promoter Donal Mulcahy, John Chawke promoter Willie Power. The next draw is for a jackpot of 6,200 and will be held on Saturday 3rd September in Condron’s Bar, Ballingarry.

Michael Sheehan RIP

Granagh/Ballingarry GAA club officials, players and members extend sympathy to the Sheehan family on the passing of Michael Sheehan, Gortnagraige, Mallow and late of Ballinleena, Granagh. Mickey was an outstanding hurler winning West Junior A Hurling Championship medals with Granagh/Ballingarry in 1957 and 1958 while also winning Munster and All Ireland Junior Hurling Championship medals with Limerick in 1954 and 1957. Condolences to the Sheehan family, Ballinleena, Granagh and Gortnagraige, Mallow. Ar dheis Dé to raibh a anam.
