GALTEE GAELS

Points Shared in Caherconlish
Our senior side played out a very entertaining draw with the newly promoted Kildimo/Pallaskenry last Saturday night in their fourth-round fixture in Caherconlish.
Played in perfect conditions, Zach opened our account with a well taken point, but Kildimo/Pallaskenry replied with three great points as Gaels struggled to settle into the game. The opposition were applying the pressure and hit the crossbar several times and were very unlucky to not find the back of the net, much to the relief of the Gaels supporters. Points from Tommie and Zach finally steadied the ship, and we became much more controlled on the ball and our attacking game was starting to pay off as we kicked on and got some excellent scores before half time to give us a narrow two-point lead at half time with a scoreline of 6 points to 8.
We got the dream start in the second half when the newly introduced sub-Sean Casey found the back of the net after some excellent build up play and Alan Condon quickly extended our lead to six points with an excellent long-range score. Trained by former Gaels trainer Ollie Coffey, Gaels supporters knew Kildimo/Pallaskenry would hit their purple patch and that is exactly what happened. Peter Nash got the all-important goal on the 48th minute and we were under pressure at kickout time when trying to get our hands on the ball. Kildimo/Pallaskenry kicked two points in extra time to draw the game level and we were set up for a grandstand finish after a brilliant turnover from Zach McCarthy resulted in us been awarded a long range free which went narrowly wide from the boot of Conor McGrath. The finish whistle went, and it ended up a draw with a scoreline of 1-14 apiece.
This was a much-improved performance from the previous week and a very entertaining game of football from two evenly matched sides. We now face Ballylanders in the last group game, knowing that our senior status is retained for another year, a win against Bally and if other results go our way, we will reach the knockout stages for the second year in a row.
