Glenroe U19’s off to a winning start
Glenroe 5-16 Belville Gaels 2-18
Glenroe got off to a winning start in their Championship campaign against Belville Gaels in Martinstown Monday night. Glenroe started the game under a lot of pressure with Belville coming out of the blocks very quickly. This was a tough start for our U19’s and had to work hard to stay in the game. Going into the first water break the scores were Belville 1-7 Glenroe 0-2. The game was following the same pattern after the break with Belville stretching their lead to 10 points it was not looking good for Glenroe. Suddenly our U19’s showed why they are county champions from last year with a 12-minute blitz of scoring changed the game. Glenroe scored 5-3 in this period with Liam Dennehy scoring a sensational 5 goals and points from Darren Frewen and Shaun Moloney saw a deficit of 10 points turn into a 5 point lead. The scores at half time Glenroe 5-5 to 1-12 Belville Gaels. The second half was about managing the lead that they worked so hard to pull back and manage it they did fantastically. An excellent tally of 0-11 with 0-5 scored by Shane O’ Donoghue in an excellent display along with heroic defending saw Glenroe see out the game with relative comfort. The final score was Glenroe 5-16 Belville Gaels 2-18. Glenroe start with a win and secure a place in the quarter final.
