GERALD GRIFFIN’S GAA CLUB NOTES

Griffin’s Coaches Intermediate Semi-Final: Gerald Griffin’s vs. Rathkeale
Date: 16/10/21
Venue: Newcastle West
Team: Brian Scanlon, Hugh O’Donnell, Brian Long, Paul O’Donnell, Paul Brouder (0-01), Paudie O’Connell (0-01), Brendan Stack, Tommy Griffin, Jim Liston, John McCoy, Jamie Long, Adrian O’Sullivan (0-01), Gerard Stack (0-02), Dara Noonan (0-05), Michael John Ambrose. Subs: Micheál Thornton (replacing Paul O’Donnell in the second half), Aidan Ryan (1-00), Diarmuid Noonan, Patrick O’Shaughnessy (came on in final quarter)
The game started with Gerald Griffin’s winning the ball and scoring 2 points in the first few minutes. Unfortunately, Rathkeale weren’t long closing that gap by scoring a point and a goal only 8 minutes in. Gerald Griffin’s fought hard and Rathkeale had some shots that went wide as well as some that went over the bar. By the end of the first quarter, they led by a goal. Adrian O’Sullivan got a point after the first water break which was followed by 2 points for Rathkeale. Dara Noonan got 2 points closing the gap a little. Half-time score was 1-06 Rathkeale to 0-06 Gerald Griffin’s. Rathkeale kept a few points ahead of us throughout the game and we missed some chances to get the ball in towards the goals. Gerald Griffin’s continued fighting to the end. A late goal, scored by Aidan Ryan, gave Gerald Griffin’s some hope but was unfortunately too late to bring us back. We had plenty of possession during the game but failed to convert it into scores; whereas Rathkeale on the other hand made the most of their chances. The goals by Rathkeale, at the beginning of the game and at the start of the second half, were the deciding factors of the game. Full-time score was Rathkeale 2-11 to Gerald Griffin’s 1-10.
On behalf of Gerald Griffin’s club and committee, we would like to say, while it didn’t go our way yesterday, we are still very proud of the team who gave it their all. We would also like to thank everyone who contributed and who make Gerald Griffin’s club a leading club in Limerick football circles. Well done to all who got our intermediate team this far and we believe that our day is yet to come.
