Senior County Semi- Final
Fr. Caseys Vs Adare – Sunday October 23rd in Newcastle West at 4.00pm
Senior County Quarter Final
Fr. Caseys 1-14 Kildimo/Pallaskenry 0-08
Fr. Caseys travelled to Newcastle West last Saturday to face Kildimo/Pallaskenry in the county quarter-final. We entered the game with the favourites tag but also with the burden of not winning a game in the knockout stages in over a decade. Kildimo/Pallaskenry reaching the knocking stages for their first year at Senior grade had exceeded expectation and were now looking for one more scalp. Early points from Martin Scannell and Rory O’Brien opened our account but in a cagey opening quarter there would be no more scores. A brace of points from Martin Scannell extended the lead before Kildimo kicked their first point of the day. Rory O’Brien who was winning his duel, added his second point from play and when Martin Scannell guided another free over the bar the lead was extended to five points. The team would trade points before the half time break with Rory O’Brien once more on the scoreboard. It was a positive opening half from the Abbeyfeale men with Martin and Rory extremely clinical in front of goal while Eliah, Adrian, Chris and Cormac were also winning the key battles. The defence was also standing firm with Mark McCarthy leading the line. Credit to Cathal Broderick too for a superb tracking and a goal line block in the early stages. The half time score was Fr. Caseys 0-07, Kildimo/Pallaskenry 0-02.
An early second half point from Martin Scannell increased the lead. Martin was then denied a fine goal by the post and narrowly missed the rebound. Kildimo responded with two quick fire points but a superb goal from Rory O’Brien and fisted point from Eliah Riordan put eight points between the teams. With a flawless display to this point, Fr. Caseys went to sleep over the next 10 minutes and invited needless pressure on their defence. Three points without reply gave Kildimo hope but a brace of points from Dylan Quirke, one from a free would steady the ship. The team again traded points with David Ward on target for Fr. Caseys before another brace of points from Dylan Quirke ended the contest. There was no doubt about the winner in the end with Fr. Caseys running away with a well-deserved nine point winning margin. The full time score was Fr. Caseys 1-14, Kildimo/Pallaskenry 0-08
This was a very polished performance from Fr. Caseys and bar a ten minute wobble in the second half the team showed great composure, work rate and were clinical in front of goal. There is no doubt that tougher tests await and the meeting with Adare on October 23rd will be a mouth-watering encounter. Well done to all involved and keep up the good work
