County U21 Football Final
Fr. Caseys Vs Galbally, Friday December 10th in Mick Neville Park at 8.00pm
County U21 Football Final
This Friday night in Mick Neville Park our U21 Footballers take on Galbally bidding to win the County U21 Title for the first time since 2011 and the ninth time in the clubs history. Undefeated in their campaign to date, Fr. Caseys were pushed all the way in their opening game against St. Kierans and were possibly lucky to escape with a draw. From that point the team have gone from strength to strength, with comprehensive victories over Na Piarsaigh and Monaleen to top their group. In the county semi-final they edged a hard fought game with Mungret with two points to spare. Their opponents also encountered a difficult semi-final against St. Kierans, emerging victorious after a strong second half performance. The management team of Daniel Daly, Cormac Roche and Killian Sweeney have built a very strong team and will be hoping for another big performance on Friday to conclude a great year for the club where minor and junior a titles have already been delivered. It won’t be easy but hopefully a large Abbeyfeale crowd can make the trip to Rathkeale and cheer on the team. We wish everyone involved the very best of luck and hopefully lady luck smiles on us once more this year. Entry Tickets for the game must be purchased online in advance, please follow our club Facebook page for more details. Throw in time in Mick Neville Park is 8pm
County U21 Football Semi-Final
Fr. Caseys 0-13 Mungret 2-05
Fr. Caseys U21 Footballers returned to Mick Neville Park last Friday to take on a strong Mungret side with a place in the U21 County Final up for grabs. Both sides had recorded impressive league campaigns to date so an exciting encounter was in store. Mungret kicked the opening point but this was soon cancelled out by a brilliantly struck long range point from Eliah Riordan. The teams again traded points with Dylan Quirke on target for Fr. Caseys before Rory O’Brien pointed to regain the lead. Another long range point from Eliah and a second point from Rory had the Abbeyfeale men leading by three as the teams went for the first water break. On the restart Dylan Quirke kicked another point from play to stretch the lead. No further scores arrived until the last five minutes of the half when Fr. Caseys achieved their most fruitful period with four unanswered points coming from Rory O’Brien, Martin Coughlan, Dylan Quirke and finally a converted free from Eliah Riordan. Aiding by the breeze Fr. Caseys were good value for their eight point half time lead with the forwards in clinical form, scoring all bar one point from play. The real heros in the first period however were the backline who contested every ball, keeping their opponents to just two points. A brilliant save from Shane O’Connell denying Mungret a certain goal. And at full back Culann Quigley was having an inspired game. The half time score was Fr. Caseys 0-10, Mungret 0-02
Mungret emerged a stronger outfit in the second half and went in search of a lifeline. To their credit Fr. Caseys withstood all the early pressure and as they went for the final water break both teams had added just one score each to the scoreboard. Mark McCarthy getting his reward for his tireless work with a point from wing back. The last quarter saw Mungret enjoy their first period of dominance and 1-02 without reply had them just three points behind with five minutes remaining. Two Dylan Quirke points, one from a free, gave Fr. Caseys a vital cushion as the game entered stoppage time. Mungret then struck for a second goal to reduce the margin to just two points but time was against them and Fr. Caseys had held on for a well-deserved victory. It was a great
performance from all involved and the team now stand just sixty minutes away from history. The full time score was Fr. Caseys 0-13, Galbally 2-05.
