West Senior League Final
Fr. Caseys 0-09 Newcastle West 2-12
Having both topped their respective west league groups and maintaining a 100% success rate along the way, last Thursday night saw Fr. Caseys come face to face with neighbours Newcastle West in the West Senior League Final in Athea. With inter-county football action now complete this game also marked a return for the county players to their clubs with Adrian Enright and Cormac Roche hoping to strengthen the Fr. Caseys momentum. The opening quarter did not start as planned for the Abbeyfeale men with Newcastle West dominating possession and running into a 0-04 to 0-00 lead as we headed for the first water break. The second quarter saw Fr. Caseys find their feet however and they had the margin reduced to just two points at the half time break. Trailing by 0-05 to 0-03 an exciting second period awaited.
Even though Newcastle West pounced for an early second half goal, Fr. Caseys continued to raise the white flags to stay in contention and trailing by 1-08 to 0-07 at the final water break this game was still very much in the melting pot. Unfortunately injuries to some key players and the experience of a very strong Newcastle West side ended this contest in the final quarter. When Newcastle West struck for their second goal the hopes of some silverware were lost and the deficit was stretched to nine points before the final whistle. The final score of 2-12 to 0-09 did not do justice to the efforts from Fr. Caseys but the team now know of the high standards that need to be achieved and hopefully there is a positive reply. Despite losing the West Final our Seniors still qualify for the County League Semi-Final where they will play the winners of the City which were Monaleen. That game is fixed for Tuesday July 20th with the winner advancing to the County League Final against Newcastle West on Saturday July 24th. We wish all players and management the best of luck.
County U17 Championship
Fr. Caseys 5-14 Galbally 3-04
Having suffered defeat away to Mungret in the opening round of the County U17 Championship, Fr. Caseys needed a big performance last Wednesday evening when they took on Galbally in Abbeyfeale. On a night when everything fell into place, Fr. Caseys marched to a very impressive sixteen point winning margin over Galbally. This victory puts them right back into contention with three more group games to play. Next up is a meeting at home to Monaleen on July 28th. Well done to all involved and hopefully winning ways continue.
Well Done Limerick
Well done to the Limerick Senior Hurlers who staged a historic comeback against Tipperary last Sunday to claim the Munster Hurling Title for the third year in a row. Trailing by 10 points at the break it looked like the treaty men had met their match but an amazing third quarter reminded us what a fantastic team they are. Next up for Limerick is an All-Ireland Semi-Final on August 7th.
Best of luck to the Limerick Minor Footballers who take on Tipperary this Wednesday evening in the Quarter-Final of the Munster Championship Final. The game takes place in the Gaelic Grounds with a 7.30pm throw in. Fr.
