Munster Junior Football ¼ Final
An unbelievable occasion took place last Saturday afternoon in Quaid Park Coolyroe when Castlemahon Junior Football team hosted Waterford Shamrocks in the Munster ¼ junior football final. A huge crowd turned out in a beautiful Quaid Park to see 2 teams in an epic battle it out in the field to earn their place in the semi final. The visitors got out of the traps first and dominated the first 15 minutes of the game. They were a big strong physical team and matched the Castlemahon boys in all areas of the field and they picked every chance they created and had a solid lead of 3 points going into the break. Castlemahon were down 7 points a one stage of the 1st half but they boys never gave up and against the breeze they picked off the scores to keep them in the game going into the 2nd half. In the second half Waterford Shamorcks picked off the first point but Castlemahon had the advantage of the breeze and they started like the County champions they were. They picked off the next few scores with a fantastic goal from All Star Seamus Flanagan and this seemed to be the catalyst they needed as they played wonderful football after that and dominated the 3rd quarter of the game. Shamrocks got a late goal but it wasn’t enough to win the game. 8 points from the feet of Alan Roche and 1-5 from Seamus Flanagan has set up Feohanagh/Castlemahon for a mouth watering contest with the Kerry Champions Fossa Killarney. The scoreline was 2.12 to 1-18.
