County Junior A Hurling Championship Group 1 Round 5
Dromcollogher/ Broadford 0-24
Staker Wallace 2-14
A solid display with an extremely strong scoring performance in the first half meant that we qualified for the Quarter Finals of the Junior A Hurling Championship. Following a slow start to the group , the team and management deserve credit for sticking at it and battling through to the knockout stages. The table after Round 5 read as follows: Crecora/ Manister 9 points, Dromcollogher/ Broadford 7 points Templeglantine 6 points, Ballybricken/ Bohermore 5 points, Staker Wallace 3 points, and Blackrock no points.
The first half was a promising performance from us with our forwards especially Keith Lacey and Damien Burke driving us forward. Declan Stack added an excellent score and was unlucky for a goal as our interplay created a large amount of chances for our forward line. Unfortunately, the concession of two goals kept our opponents in the game. To leave the score at half-time Dromcollogher/ Broadford 0-16 to Staker Wallace 2-06.
Sean O’Sullivan got a massive long range score to open the scoring in the second half. Our opponents rallied strongly to add the next 5 points which put us under pressure. Again like all season the team responded by outscoring our opponents by 7 points to 3 for the rest of the game. Keith, Damien and Derry adding important scores while our full back line did well to hold out any dangerous attacks. To leave the score at full-time Dromcollogher/ Broadford 0-24 to Staker Wallace 2-14.
The draw has left us with a Quarter Final against Castletown/ Ballyagran, which is currently set for Saturday October 8th, in Feenagh, at 3.30pm.
