U8 Girls
Well done to our U8 girls who played the Old Mill in Athea last Wednesday. They continue to learn and improve with every game they play. They will host Glin this Wednesday night Sept 21st in Athea 6.45
U9 Boys & Girls
U9s played Duagh last Saturday morning in Athea. With the numbers we had, we were able to field two teams so we had two very competitive games. Some of the football on show was excellent from both teams. Our boys and girls have really worked hard this year on tackling and kicking, it was great to see it in full flow this weekend.
U13 Boys
The curtain came down on our U13 football season on Thursday evening last in sunny Glin in the A Final of the Shannon Gaels football tournament. We played a very strong Moyvane team in the final who were fresh from winning their own Division 2 league in North Kerry. The big crowd that turned out for the game were not disappointed as we were treated to an excellent game of football with Moyvane holding the advantage throughout. The score at half time was Moyvane 2:7 to Athea 2:2 and the second half was even more evenly contested with the final score Moyvane 3:11 to Athea 4:4. Our boys were disappointed at the final whistle but can be very proud of their performance, this is a very young team with only 4 of the boys overage for next year. This team have played 15 U13 games since they started in March and have made huge progress and have developed into a fine side. Great credit to their Coach Mark Reidy who has also put in a huge effort all year developing player skills and teamwork assisted by Jackie Broderick and Neilus Hunt. Special mention also to the parents who are constantly on the road to training and matches which the club acknowledge is not easy but greatly appreciated, also thanks to the parents for taking turns washing jerseys after the matches, it really is a team effort. Finally, thanks to the panel of 23 U13 Athea footballers who proudly represented the Parish in 2022……your time will come.
Tom Mullane, Paddy O’Connor, Jack Leahy, Jamie Brosnan, Tony Ambrose, Daniel Hunt, Daniel Broderick, Mark Collins, Daniel Leahy, Tadhg Hunt, Jamie Quinn, Aaron Hunt, Mark Ahern, Aaron Broderick, Patrick Healy, Conor Fennelly, Conor Leach, Shane Ahern, Nathan Ambrose, Cathal Fitzgerald, John Ahern, Liam Og Reidy, Eoin Kenerick.
Junior Ladies
Our Juniors will play Ahane in the eagerly awaited semi final next Sunday 25th at 11 am in Croom.
When these two teams last met in the championship earlier this year there was nothing between the sides and this Sunday promises to be another battle to see who will qualify for this year’s final.
Sympathy
The Club would like to offer our sympathies to the O’ Keeffe family Athea, on the passing of Peg O’Keeffe, Knocknaboul. May the light of heaven shine upon her.
