County Junior A Hurling Championship Group 1 Round 4
Dromcollogher/ Broadford 0-25
Blackrock 3-06
We kept our hopes of qualifying from Group 1 of the Junior A Hurling Championship with a decisive win over Blackrock, our next fixture is against Staker Wallace on this coming Sunday September 11th, in Ballyagran, at 1pm. The table after Round 4 Read as follows: Crecora/ Manister 7 points, Templeglantine 6 points, Dromcollogher/ Broadford 5 points Staker Wallace, Ballybricken/ Bohermore both on 3 points, and Blackrock no points.
We led 0-14 to 1-4 at half time. After an even start, we pulled away with a strong final quarter despite the concession of the. Michael Brosnan caused the opposition problems from midfield and added three points to our total. Other scores from Keith Lacey, James Molyneaux, Damien Burke and Declan Stack making his first start of the season.
The second half continued to be under Drom/Broadford’s control with further scores from Damien, Keith and Brian Noonan pulling us into a strong lead. We were also unlucky to add a goal or two to our total but for some excellent goalkeeping from the Blackrock goalkeeper.
Unfortunately, late Blackrock goals put us under a small bit of pressure before a strong finish including scores from Kevin Noonan and James Molyneaux managed to comfortably close out the game for us. It finished Dromcollogher/ Broadford 0-25 to Blackrock 3-06.

West Junior B Hurling Championship Group 3 Round 2
Askeaton 0-13
Dromcollogher-Broadford 2-13
West Junior B Hurling Championship Group 3 Round 3
Tournafulla 2-11
Dromcollogher/ Broadford 0-14
Our Junior B hurlers were on double duty this week and ended up just coming short of qualifying from our group.
On Wednesday night in Raheenagh we had an excellent win over Askeaton in an extremely entertaining game. Our win was based on great work rate around the field and a terrific performance from our full forward line in Adam Cotter (1-3), Sean Ryan (0-2) and Paddy Lordan (0-1) who caused constant problems for the opposition. Our experienced heads at the back kept the danger to a minimum and we grabbed our first win of the year leading to a winner takes all clash with Tournafulla on Sunday evening in Coolyroe.
Unfortunately, a slow start meant a massive second half comeback came up short as we bowed out of the tournament in another excellent game. We trailed 2-5 to 0-1 after a sluggish start with Tour dominating in all areas. Thankfully, the long range free taking of Gerard Noonan and a classy score from Thomas Fitzgerald kept us hanging on in touch and helped our young team to grow into the game and stay in touch at 2-07 to 0-7 at HT. The second half performance was our best show of the year so far as we tore into the game and were unlucky not to draw level on a couple of occasions with Tour managing to pull off a few key blocks. Our backs were well on top with Pat Curtin, Eamonn Ryan and Denis O’Carroll driving us forward along with Niall in goal’s puck-outs putting us on the attack constantly. Jack Shanahan had a super second half with 3 points from play and narrowly missing out on a goal. Darragh Stack added a massive point from midfield where he and Michael Brennan never stopped working while our forwards earned a few vital frees which Gerard managed to strike over. We never managed to get level which may have led to a win but a lot of improvement was shown from the team from the start of the year which bodes well for the future.
Special thanks to all involved in the management team and especially the players who showed up for us all season which started all the way back in April. It’s also has been great to see members of the panel getting game-time with the Junior A’s throughout the season.
U13 Hurling notes
On Sunday morning last our u13 hurlers travelled to Knockaderry to take on Mungret /St Pauls in the county shield final. Weather conditions weren’t great for the first 8 to 10 minutes the two teams were very even with a point a piece. For the second period of the first half mungret kicked on scoring 2-2 to no reply. At the half time whistle, Mungret were 2-3 Drom/Broadford 1pt. We regrouped at half time the players knew they hadn’t performed to their best of their ability they promised to up their performance. The minute the ball was thrown in the second half the work rate was outstanding they really took the game to Mungret we got some brilliant scores keeping Mungret/ St. Paul’s scoreless in the second half. The boys brought the score down to 2 points Micheál O’Kelly was denied a goal to put us up by a point only for the sliotars raspering off the post. The boys kept chasing for the winner it wasn’t to be. The game finished on a scoreline of Mungret St. Paul’s 2 – 3 to Dromcollogher/ Broadford 1-4. Well done to all the players who put in a might effort all year. They can be very proud of themselves of their performance in the final.
