CROOM GAA CLUB NOTES

Rising Stars:
Last Saturday we had the 2nd weekend of our very popular Rising Stars programme. We had a huge turn out again and the kids had a great time. The Rising Stars is a 6 week programme of fun indoor activities based on hurling and football to develop your child’s fundamental movement skills such as agility, balance, co-ordination, running, jumping, catching, and throwing. The programme will take place on Saturday mornings at Croom Sports Complex for another 4 weeks starting at 10am and will last an hour. The programme is for boys and girls aged 3-6 and parental involvement during each class is encouraged. Anyone who missed the first couple of days is more than welcome this Saturday. Cost €25 for the 6 weeks. Please come along and try out this fun new sporting activity. For further information, please call 0858610223.

This year is the first year that all minor, U21 hurling and football championships are being ran on an all county basis. Croom are in the B competition which has 4 groups of 4. We are in group 4 and our fixtures are: Sun Feb 2nd away v St Kierans; Sun Feb 9th home v Granagh/Ballingarry; Sun Feb 16th away v Glenroe, all games at 12noon

This year the county championship will have 4 groups of 4 (reduced from 4 groups of 5). We are in group 1 with Fr. Caseys, South Liberties, and Castlemahon with the fixtures taking place on the weekends of June 14th, June 28th, and July 12threspectively. The top team in each group qualifies for the quarter final with 2nd v 3rd playing in a preliminary match to join them. It is proposed that 2021’s championship be reduced from 16 to 12 teams consisiting of 2 groups of 6 on the same basis as the Senior and Intermediate championships.

Coach Education/Coaching Courses:
Anyone interested in getting involved with coaching teams or helping out with their children as they start playing GAA, why not do one of the GAA’s coach education courses? These are taking place all over the county in Jan, Feb, and March. Last year we held a very successful Foundation course in Croom and this year we are hoping to host a Level 1 course. If you wish to do a course please contact Stephen Lucey 0879858726 or PJ O’Mahony 0857161505.
