CRECORA-MANISTER GAA CLUB NOTES

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL:
Our intermediate footballer’s relegation final with Monaleen has been fixed for Saturday 16th October in Claughaun at 4.30pm.
JUNIOR A HURLING:
Our junior A hurlers recorded a vital 2-15 to 2-13 win over neighbours Ballybricken-Bohermore last Saturday afternoon in Fedamore in the most dramatic of circumstances. We had a dream start inside the opening minute of the game when Edwin Wixted struck for a goal with Conor Kirby following up with a fine point from play. Ballybricken to their credit replied with three points of their own before a goal for the men in purple and gold left it 1-3 to 1-1 in their favour. We went point for point with them until the waterbreak with Cathal O’Neill chipping in with two pointed frees for us to leave it 1-6 to 1-3. The second quarter was a tense affair as we gradually ate into Ballybricken’s lead with three more Cathal O’Neill frees leaving the minimum in it at the break, 1-7 to 1-6. We were then dealt a sucker punch at the start of the second half as Ballybricken struck for a soft goal to put four points between the teams. Our lads did not panic however and showed great resilience to claw our way back into the contest as Evan Moloney, Paraic O’Neill and Richard Murphy started dominating their defensive battles and Karl Moloney and Cormac Flanagan got on top in midfield. Three more frees from Cathal and an inspirational score from corner back Rory Hannan from the middle of the field as well as a fine point from play from Cathal left the minimum in it once more at the second half water break. Despite our best efforts and some fine points from play from Cathal, Ballybricken always managed to keep 2 or 3 points in it as it looked as if they would take the two points back to Caherelly. As the game entered injury time Ballybricken held a three point lead before a Cathal O’Neill score brought it back to a two point game. In the dying moments, Michael Bateman made a darting run down the right wing and his shot was missed by the Ballybricken full back and goalkeeper before eventually finding its way into the net to give us the lead. We managed to turn over the resultant puckout which Brendan Power finished over the bar. The referee blew the final whistle shortly after which marked jubilant scenes from our supporters and sideline. Team: Ger Kennedy; Evan Moloney, Jack Dalton, Rory Hannan (0-1); Páraic O’Neill, Richard Murphy, Tim Moloney; Cormac Flanagan, Karl Moloney; Cathal O’Neill (0-12, 0-8f), Michael Bateman (1-0), Darach Skelly; Micheál O’Neill, Edwin Wixted (1-0), Conor Kirby (0-1).
