On Saturday the 3rd September 2022, Crecora Manister GAA Club and Crecora Camogie Club hosted the Official Opening of their new All Weather Playing Facility, located at the hurling wall, at Crecora Manister GAA Pitch.
Cllr Stephen Keary, Cathaoirleach, Adare Rathkeale Municipal District and John Cregan, County Chairman, Limerick County Board officially opened the new facility.
Club Members, officials and players from both the GAA and Camogie Clubs attended the launch. Also present were local TD’s Niall Collins and Patrick O’Donovan; Cllrs Bridie Collins and John O’Donoghue from the Adare Rathkeale Municipal District; Paul Foley, GAA Central Council and Seamus Twomey, GAA Munster Council.
Opening the new facility, Cllr Stephen Keary commended both clubs on the completion of the All Weather Astro Facility, which represents the second phase in their Development Plan, following the successful opening of the first phase, the Community Walking Track at Crecora Manister GAA pitch, in May 2021. He wished them well in their future development plans and he also noted the recent additional road, and footpath works carried out by Limerick City and County Council adjoining the GAA pitch, which he said was a further boost for the local community.
John Cregan, County Chairman, Limerick County Board praised both clubs on the delivery of the facility and referred to the important role that both the GAA and Camogie plays in the community and the great voluntary work done by so many people in clubs to develop facilities, work with teams and assist their wider community throughout County Limerick.
Speaking at the Official Opening, Pat Byrnes, Chairperson Crecora Manister GAA Club explained “when the Clubs launched their Development Plan in 2020, we had an ambitious funding target of €300,000 to implement the various Development works. The completion now of the All Weather Astro Facility, combined with the Walking Track last year, represents an investment to date in our club facilities of approximately €270,000 over the past two years, which is excellent work”.
He acknowledged the input and co-operation from all in Crecora Manister GAA Club and Crecora Camogie Club and noted that the two clubs had worked seamlessly together for the greater good of both clubs and the wider community, and long may this continue.
David Delahunty, Chairperson Crecora Camogie Club stated that the new facility would help increase participation and activity across all levels that people are participating at, with all the associated physical and mental health benefits that ensue.
Both Crecora Manister GAA and Crecora Camogie Chairpersons expressed their gratitude for the support received from individual contributions received from Club Members and the wider community, business sponsorship, support from the Elected Members of the Adare Rathkeale Municipal District and National Lottery funding, which all combined to enable the All Weather Astro Facility to be completed.
Mark Leahy, Club Development Chairperson confirmed that while two major aspects of the Clubs Development Plan were now completed, that it was the intention of both clubs to continue on with other aspects of the Development Plan so as to further improve facilities for both the GAA and Camogie Clubs and also the wider community as well.
He said: “This new development will be hugely beneficial in the development of our GAA and Camogie players. Up to now, we have had to try and secure the availability of All Weather Facilities outside of the area, which were usually not available, or not available at the desired times, and which had a substantial cost involved to rent, etc. We will now have our own facility for all our players from U6’s to adult, which will be available to them all year round to train and develop their skills and fitness. The facility will also be available for use by other groups in our community.”
