Match Report:
U14FC: Claughaun 3-09 1-08 Ahane.
We played our final group game away to Ahane on a wet bank holiday Monday evening. We started the game brightly with a goal from Calum Murphy inside the opening minute. Our opponents kicked the next 3 points to level up the game after 10mins. We could of easily found ourselves behind only for 2 top class saves from our net minder Jibril Sheehan, this seemed to spur our lads on as we kicked 5 points in a row through Aaron Considine, Jamie Hannon, Mark Ward & Kian O’Brien after some brilliant team work. Half time Claughaun 1-7 Ahane 0-5.
Ahane came out all guns blazing in the second half and really took the game to us and got 1-3 on the bounce. With 12 minutes remaining we trailed 1-8 to 1-7. But our boys really dug in and from this point on we played some outstanding football with our backs winning every ball coming their way. Our man again Calum Murphy hit the back of the net after some excellent build up play from Conor McMahon, Callum Kiely & Mark Ward. From the kick out Jamie Hannon won his own ball played a one-two with Aaron Considine before finishing a great shot to the net. Ahane weren’t finished yet and came at us again but luckily for us they found our goalkeeper in magnificent form who made 2 more point blank saves. We got our next score from a counter attack when Jake Griffin & Kian O’Brien linked up to play a good ball into Aaron Considine who beat two markers and swung the ball over his shoulder and over the bar, what a score ! Our last score was our score of the day as we worked the ball through the lines with precision and pace with nearly every man getting their hands on the ball before the ball found Aaron Considine who slotted over the bar to leave the score 3-9 to 1-8 at the final whistle. Great credit to both sides who served up a great game in very tough conditions for football.
This win means we top the group with 5 wins from 5 games and qualify for a county semi-final.
