U12 Football Championship

Ballybricken 4-06

Cappamore 2-03

On Thursday last we traveled to Ballybricken, to play in the U12 Football championship.

We started brightly and got the first two scores of the match, with Malachy Keogh putting the ball over the bar for the first point. Ben Ryan then lobbed a long range effort into the net. Ballybricken soon got more into the game and started to put us under pressure and scored two quick goals in succession, one from the penalty spot. We replied when Ben Ryan and Jake Slattery both kicked points. At half time it was all square 2-0 to 1-3.

The second half started with both teams being evenly matched, even though Ballybricken were beginning to get on top. They added the first few points after the resumption to go into a two point lead. Jake Slattery then popped up at the other end to score a well taken goal. Unfortunately that was to be our last score. Ballybricken added a few more points and when they scored their third goal, they were in a 3-5 to 2-3 lead and they never looked back. They had the momentum at that stage. In the closing stages they added another goal as we tried to push forward. For three quarters of the match there wasn’t much between the two teams and we played some nice football at times. Ballybricken just finished stronger, the final scoreline doesn’t reflect how close the teams were.

Squad: Cillian O’Dwyer, Cian O’Connor, Thomas Shanahan, James Ryan, Alex Heney, Jacob Wright, Cathal Mulcahy, Jake Slattery, Tommy Hartnett, Ben Ryan, Chris Smith, Malachy Keogh, Cathal Mulligan, Andrew Caher, Tadgh Blackwell, David Meehan, Leo Keogh
