JUNIOR A CHAMPIONSHIP: Now that the dust has settled somewhat, it’s only right we should look back on an incredible day for our club – County Junior A Champions 2021 and we’ll be playing Intermediate hurling in 2022! The game threw in a few mins late due to the traffic jam in the town, a fine crowd in the ground. The first quarter of the game was cagey but tough hurling, as we knew it would be; predictions before the game saying there would only be a puck of a ball in it and it was certainly heading that way…we were up 0-05 to 0-04 at the first water break but we could only manage a single point in the second quarter, while St Kierans slotted 3 to lead at half time 0-07 to 0-06. We dominated a lot of the second half, keeping St Kierans to just 1 point in the 3rd quarter and slotting over 6 ourselves to lead 0-12 to 0-08 with 14 mins left. To be fair to St Kierans, they’re a good bunch of lads and didn’t give up…they were just 3 points behind heading into the closing stages, a dangerous lead for us. But deep into stoppage time, Jack Enright buried the sliotar into the back of the net to give us 6-point lead and it wasn’t long after that referee David Deady blew the final whistle to incredible scenes…Caherline crowned Junior A County Champions! The scenes on the pitch for the next 30 mins or so were incredible and emotional for everyone and rightly so…it’s no more than the team deserve after their efforts this year, along with an incredible management & support team – we now await the winners of Ballygiblin (Mitchelstown) v Dromtarriffe (Mallow) next Saturday to see who we’ll play on December 11th or 12th in the AIB Munster GAA Hurling Junior Club Championship semi-final in a Cork venue – while I know the lads enjoyed their night out last night, I’m sure Damien & his selectors will have the lads back training soon in preparation for that game! TEAM: M Moloney, W O’Keeffe, P O’Keeffe, D Power, S Whelan, Da Murnane, D Balfry, Jack Carroll, P Wixted (0-02), James Kennedy, A Brennan (0-10(8*f)), James Enright, Jake Kennedy, A Power, K Wixted (0-01) SUBS: 13mins 2nd half -> off: Jake Kennedy on: Jake Carroll, 23mins 2nd half s-> off: Kevin Wixted on: Eoin Nelligan, 27mins 2nd half -> off: Aaron Power on: Jack Enright (1-00), C Hickey, D Wixted, P Tiernan, N Tierney, S Kenny, M Hogan, E Balfry, C Enright, Di Murnane, P Ryan.
