U14 Hurling
On Saturday morning last the County Under 14 Hurling Final was played in Claughaun GAA grounds betweeen Bruff and Kildimo Pallaskenry. This much anticipated match lived up to its billing. Bruff won the toss and elected to play against the breeze in the first half. Kildimo Pallaskenry seemed to settle better and rushed into a five point lead. Bruff kept the intensity up and were in savage mode. There were some well taken frees from Michael O’ Riordan and an opportunist point by Tommy O’ Rourke brought Bruff back into the game. The half time score was Bruff 0-5 Kildimo Pallaskenry 1-5. Bruff started the second half like an express train as they got three quick points, all from Owen Meany who was unerring from frees. Michael O’ Riordan raced through to rattle the onion bag with a strike that was absolutely delightful. Kildimo Pallaskenry came back up the field to score two points. From the puck out, there was a great interchange of play between Barry Callinan and Ethan Cumes to set up Tadhg Boddy who rattled the ball into the roof of the net from an acute angle. Bruff got four more points to open up a lead, Barry Callinan, Sean Casey and Tadhg Boddy all had some well taken scores. The last ten minutes Kildimo Pallaskenry laid siege to the Bruff goals, but as always our defence have a hard border and all attacks were repelled. The final whistle was greeted with scenes of joy from players, mentors and supporters. Michael O’ Riordan accepted the cup, giving a speech Declan Hannon would be proud of. He thanked all the mentors, the parents for taking players to matches and training, Claughaun GAA, the referee and all the supporters throughout the year. Michael gave three cheers to Kildimo Pallaskenry for a very sporting match. A big thank you to John Stokes, manager of Kildimo Pallaskenry, who said some lovely words to both teams after the match. Big credit goes to every member of the panel as they have been on the go since last November. Everything they were asked they answered. Thank you to parents for taking the time to take players to matches and training, showing huge commitment. Thank you to top table of Bord na nOg, especially Nollaig and Nicola who have been very good to us whenever anything has been asked of them. To all our sponsors who were very generous over the year. In particular, our trip to the Feile in Cork which was a once in lifetime experience for the players and mentors. Thank you to all the mentors who have given up their time and went above and beyond to bring success and improve the boys hurling. A special thanks to Mossy Boddy who left no stone unturned in training, bringing a professional setup that would be the envy of most intercounty teams. Eamon Cronin who has been involved with this group of players since they first started playing hurling. Eamon doesn’t go one hour without thinking about how to improve these players and has been phenomenal to the boys, we give you two claps and a rick flair WOOO!! Jason Hayes our S&C coach who had the boys running around Lough Gur in January, an experience which was thoroughly enjoyable for both players and mentors.
