AHANE GAA CLUB NOTES

U12 Hurlers – Tom Blake Tournament

The U12 Hurlers turned in a fantastic display in the annual Tom Blake Tournament to take the winners’ cup yesterday. The semi-finals saw Ahane play Ballyhea from Cork with Nenagh Eire Og playing Murroe-Boher. After 2 tremendous games, Ahane qualified to take on Nenagh in the final with Murroe-Boher taking on Ballyhea in the Shield final. Murroe-Boher went on to win the Shield final after a very entertaining game.

The Ahane U12 players put in their best display of the season against Nenagh Eire Og to take a fine win in the Cup Final with some resolute defending, high work rate and excellent teamwork to record and score 2-11 to capture the trophy. The Cup was presented to the victorious Ahane U12 Captain Eoin Coughlan. Eoin made a fine speech to thank all visiting teams who took part in the tournament and compliment all those who supported and helped to ensure everything ran smoothly on the day. Conor Ryan was named player of the Cup final.

The U12 Mentors would like to thank Sean Carey and Liam Berkery for taking care of referee duties in a professional and fair way over the course of the games and a massive THANK YOU to all parents and everyone who provided refreshments and took care of all the guests to Mackey Park yesterday. Ahane GAA would like to thank the Blake family for their ongoing support to the tournament and acknowledge the contribution of Tom Blake to the club over many years.

Over 35’s Hurling

The second get together was played out last Saturday and again this proved to be very popular with another mighty turnout and a ten a side game. Once again the standard of play was quite good considering many players hadn’t played in quite a while with both sides turning out some great interplay. The usual bit of competitiveness kicked in at stages but the game was again played in great spirits throughout and another highly enjoyable game. Well done and thanks to all involved.

The third game will take place this Saturday at the usual 4pm time but keep an eye on the Ahane social media platforms (ClubZap App, Facebook, Twitter, Website) for further information and updates.

Ahane senior Camogie through to county Semi-Finals

Ahane took on Na Piarsaigh on Sunday afternoon in Old Christians GAA club in the fifth round of the county championship. Conditions to begin with weren’t great but improved as the game went on.

Ahane started the game well with a goal coming from Áine Reynolds in the third minute. Niamh Mulcahy added to the Ahane tally with a point in the sixth minute. Ten minutes gone in the second half and Ahane got their second goal of the game off the stick of Margaret Meskell. Áine Reynolds added two more points to the Ahane score sheet and with fifteen minutes gone in the first half it stood as Ahane 2-03 Na Piarsaigh 0-00. There was some fierce battles in the middle of the field and both teams got stuck in. Na Piarsaigh’s first score came of the stick of their centre forward with a beauty of a point in the seventh minute. Shauna D’Arcy got her first point of the game in the seventh minute as a response to Na Piarsaigh’s first score. Na Piarsaigh got there second point of the game from their wing back in the twenty first minute. There was a strong wind throughout the game and at times the teams struggled to judge it. One of the highlights of the game was the fantastic sideline ball taken by Niamh, which traveled across the field and landed straight into Kate Herbert’s hand who then played a great ball into the forwards. Áine and Shauna added a point each to the Ahane tally and the teams went in at half time as Ahane 2-06 Na Piarsaigh 0-02.

Na Piarsaigh were the first out of the blocks in the second half as their number nine put the ball over the black spot to start their second half scoring. Niamh put two frees over the bar and Áine added another point to her tally of the day. Ahane’s next two scores came from the stick of Áine once again and brought her presonal tally of the day to 1-07. Niamh got another point from play but Na Piarsaigh never panicked or gave up and they came back down the field and scored a goal. Cliodhna Twomey got herself on the score sheet in the twenty sixth minute with a point. Judith and Shauna got a point each before the full time whistle blew. The game finished on a scoreline of Ahane 2-17 Na Piarsaigh 1-05.
