BLACKROCK GAA CLUB NOTES : “It’s a great day for the Parish” – a comment that was said over and over this week as the Parishes of Kilfinane and Ardpatrick get used to the idea of Senior Hurling next year. We became Premier Intermediate champions for 2019 on Saturday last accepting the Michael Fox Memorial Cup when we beat Kildimo Pallaskenry on a score line of 1 18 to 0 16. We were down 0.08 to 0 10 at half time playing against a strong wind and after reducing the gap to one a Colm O’Keeffe goal in the 48 minute put us into a lead that we were not going to lose, scoring 5 points in a row to finish strongly. Paudie Leahy was near flawless as the free taker scoring a total of 8 points, Kevin Palmer scored 3 points, Ruairi O’Shaughnessy and Dave Moloney scored 2 each and Dylan Dawson, Gavin O’Loughlin and Adrian Cooke scored a point each.
It was a super second half from the whole team and we were worthy winners at the end of 5 long additional minutes. Well done to the team captained by Paudie Leahy with Kevin Palmer the vice Captain. We now contest the Munster Championship playing Fr O’Neills from Cork in the Michael Fox Memorial Park, on Sunday next at 1.30pm. We look forward to seeing a huge Blackrock crowd at the match and we would like to pay tribute to the fantastic support we had in the Gaelic Grounds last Sunday. We are also hugely appreciative of the well wishes and congratulations we have received from around the county and beyond. It would be fantastic if we could have the parishes covered in green and white for our visitors next Sunday. Any flags and bunting that can be put up would be great. And plenty of Limerick flags too. Come on the Rockies. Best wishes to Chairman Fintan Leahy and the Club Officers and Committee in hosting the match next Sunday.
In the last week the ladies also brought home a cup winning the Junior ‘B’ Camogie Championship as Blackrock Effin. Well done to Captain Mairead Sheedy and all the team and management. Fantastic result and we hope to see both cups doing the tour of the schools in the near future.
Thanks to John Mortell and Tom Murphy for the photos of the weekend and to Tom Murphy for the videos of the supporter reactions etc. thanks to Limerick GAA for the match coverage with Matt O’Callaghan and John Keogh. Up to date scores courtesy of Whats the Scor app, with Carmel Murphy updating the app. Elaine Goggin has been working very hard on the website and we would like any old team or club photos you may have to upload onto the website.
